JARI-MATTI LATVALA WINS IN WALES

The Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally Team crew of Jari-Matti Latvala and Miikka Anttila today claimed their first victory of the 2011 FIA World Rally Championship season by winning Wales Rally GB, the final round of the series. The Finns had been battling hard with Sebastien Loeb but, following an accident on a road section, the Frenchman was forced into retirement. He and codriver Daniel Elena were nevertheless assured of the world title after the retirement of series rival Mikko Hirvonen on Friday, and the pair have claimed a record breaking eighth FIA World Rally Championship title with CITROEN.

Second position on Wales Rally GB was taken by Mads Ostberg and Jonas Andersson, their second podium finish of the season, while Henning Solberg and Ilka Minor claimed third, making it a podium lock out for the Ford Fiesta RS WRC.

With neither Championship contenders scoring points, Loeb wins the title by eight points over Hirvonen, with Sebastien Ogier finishing third and Jari-Matti Latvala fourth. In the Manufacturers' Championship, the CITROEN Total World Rally Team secured the crown for the seventh time on the penultimate round in Spain. They finished 27 points ahead of Ford with the Stobart M-Sport Ford World Rally Team taking third.

Today's route was the shortest and took the crews over two loops of three stages in the Brecon Beacon mountains and over the Epynt military ranges, concluding with the 4.36 kilometre Monument Power Stage, in which the fastest three drivers in this single stage picked up additional Championship points. Here, Sebastien Ogier was fastest and picked up three points, with Dani Sordo and Latvala claiming two and one point respectively.

Latvala led the crews into the stages this morning and he and Loeb were battling hard for outright honours. However, on the road section after the first stage, the Frenchman was involved in an accident with another vehicle and damage to the radiator forced him out of the event. There were no injuries in either vehicle. As a consequence, Latvala could ease the pace over the following five stages. Mads Ostberg, nursing a minor engine problem, finished the season as he started it in Sweden; second, while Henning Solberg and Britain's Kris Meeke battled for third. Meeke, in fourth, was 1.8 seconds adrift going into the final stage, but a half spin cost him 11 seconds and the event's top Briton maintained fourth overall.

Wales Rally GB also marked the concluding round of the inaugural FIA WRC Academy Cup. After an exciting battle to the last stage, Ireland's Craig Breen claimed the title.

SEBASTIEN OGIER WINS RALLYE DE FRANCE

After a thrilling two way fight to the finish, the Citroen Total World Rally Team crew of Sebastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia clinched victory on their home round of the FIA World Rally Championship, Rallye de France. The Frenchmen finished just 6.3 seconds ahead of the MINI WRC Team crew of Dani Sordo and Carlos Del Barrio.

Petter Solberg and Chris Patterson provisionally finished third. However, following a report by the FIA Technical Delegate, the crew was excluded from the event when it was deemed by the Stewards that the car weight did not comply with Appendix J Art. 255A-4. The crew will not be appealing the Decision.

As a consequence, Mikko Hirvonen and Jarmo Lehtinen claim third position, significantly boosting their Championship chances. In the FIA World Rally Championship for Drivers, Sebastien Loeb's retirement and Hirvonen's additional points put the duo equal first in the standings with two rounds remaining. Sebastien Ogier is third, just three points adrift, setting up a three way battle for the 2011 FIA World Rally Championship title. In the Manufacturers' Championship, Citroen continues to lead but Ford has narrowed the gap to 54 points.

Today's route covered six stages but just 40.66 competitive kilometres over gravel-strewn Tarmac roads and in foggy conditions early this morning. The rally concluded with the Power Stage, run around the streets of Haguenau, where the fastest three drivers in this single stage picked up additional Championship points. Here, Jari-Matti Latvala claimed three additional points, with Sordo and Ogier picking up two and one point respectively.

Ogier and Sordo continued to fight throughout the day but the Spaniard simply ran out of kilometres to overhaul the Frenchman. It was nevertheless an impressive performance on only the MINI's fourth outing in the WRC. Once again, Ford's Jari-Matti Latvala sacrificed position for team mate Mikko Hirvonen. By dropping two minutes, Hirvonen was able to climb into fourth position before the final stage and was then elevated to third following the exclusion of Solberg. Latvala also demonstrated the pace of the Fiesta RS WRC on Tarmac today, setting four of the six fastest stage times to ultimately finish fourth. Dennis Kuipers had a career best result of fifth overall.

MIKKO HIRVONEN WINS RALLY AUSTRALIA

Mikko Hirvonen said this after the race, "We did talk about this at the start of the year that we [Latvala] could be equal as long as we fought for Championship points. Unfortunately Jari-Matti has had a difficult season so that really helped me this week that he slowed down and let me take the lead. So big thanks to him."

He added, "It was more important just to have a good result here especially since it's been a tough season; we won in Sweden and it's been very close after that and we didn't know if we could pull it off so it was very important especially after what happened on Friday that we could still control things, and now getting a one- two is very good for everybody. Hopefully it helps us all in the future.

SEBASTIEN OGIER WINS ADAC RALLYE DEUTSCHLAND

Sebastien Ogier and co-driver Julien Ingrassia drove their Citroen DS3 WRC World Rally car to victory in Germany.

Sebastien Leob came in second with Dani Sordo getting 3rd.

MINI GETS FIRST PODIUM

Trier, 21st August, 2011. A podium position on the ADAC Rally Germany was the reward for the MINI WRC Team after Dani Sordo (ES) and Carlos del Barrio (ES) finished third in their number 37 MINI John Cooper Works WRC after a flawless drive. It also looked as if their team mates, Kris Meeke (GB) and Paul Nagle (IR), were set to make it to the finish in Trier, but then on the penultimate stage an electrical gremlin struck and the car stopped while they were still fighting for fourth.

Sordo had a rally long battle with the Ford of Mikko Hirvonen (FI) and after 19 stages and 359.59 kilometres of competition finished 48.1 secs ahead of him. For Kris he started the final day in fourth ahead of Petter Solberg (NO) in his Citroen. Despite a rear puncture on the first stage of the day, Meeke only lost 1.1 secs to Solberg. However, on the second one what Meeke described as an 'optimistic' pace note saw him have an excursion into the vineyards and drop to fifth. Despite this he started a fight back, but then when the car stopped on stage 18 the battle with Solberg was over.

It was only 11 months ago on the 15th September that the MINI rally car first turned a wheel in testing in Portugal. In that time the team has competed on only three World Rally Championship events and made it to the podium on its first tarmac event. While this may be the team's first podium, for the second time this season it has been awarded the Abu Dhabi Spirit of the Rally Award for Sordo's great drive.

SEBASTIEN LOEB TAKES THE NESTE OIL RALLY OF FINLAND

After being asked at the post race press conference - "Sebastien, congratulations on win number 66 of your career and your second win in Finland. You battled at the front this weekend; do you feel this is one of your best victories?"

Sebastien Loeb responded - "For sure, I don't know if it's the best, but it's not far from it. It's an amazing feeling, Finland is always special. It's what I always say, it's the most difficult to win in the season. This year we had a great fight with Seb (Ogier) and Jari-Matti (Latvala) - every stage was very, very fast. Every evening they came behind, but maybe it was a good thing I had to be first on the road. Sometimes it was no problem, sometimes it dried up and there was more gravel. I didn't know if I would win until two or three stages from the end - always we had some hope, but it was big pressure and difficult. Finally, we won and it's a great feeling."

ACROPOLIS RALLY OF GREECE
LOUTRAKI, GREECE
JUNE 16 - 19, 2011(Round 7)

SEBASTIEN OGIER WINS ACROPOLIS RALLY OF GREECE

The Citroen Total World Rally Team crew of Sebastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia today won the Acropolis Rally of Greece, the seventh round of the FIA World Rally Championship. The French crew finished 10.5 seconds ahead of team-mates Sebastien Loeb and Daniel Elena, with the Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally Team pairing of Mikko Hirvonen and Jarmo Lehtinen third.

In the FIA World Rally Championship for Drivers, Loeb extends his lead and has a 17 point advantage over Hirvonen. Ogier has however closed the gap and is just four points adrift of the Finn in third position. In the Manufacturers' Championship, Citroen's maximum points haul sees it pull out a 55 point lead over Ford.

The final day of competition took the crews into the hills east of Loutraki for two identical loops of two stages before rounding off the event with the Power Stage, in which additional points are awarded to the fastest three drivers through this single stage. Here, Ogier claimed honours and an additional three points, with Loeb and Hirvonen taking two and one point extra respectively.

Loeb started the day with the advantage but was immediately overhauled by Ogier, by a mere one tenth of a second. Ogier reclaimed the advantage after the third stage and from there inched out his advantage to a winning margin of 10.5 seconds. Hirvonen, who started fourth, passed Solberg in the opening stage, leaving the Norwegian to claim fourth. Jari-Matti Latvala finally managed to climb into ninth position after losing time on Friday with a transmission problem, and then on Saturday more time with a broken turbo.

SEBASTIEN LOEB GETS THIRD WIN OF 2011

Sebastien Loeb and Daniel Elena fought back from a one minute penalty on Friday to take victory in Rally Argentina today, their sixth win in South America. After a close-fought and dramatic battle that saw the podium positions decided on the final stage of the rally, Mikko Hirvonen and Jarmo Lehtinen claimed second, just 2.3 seconds adrift, with Sebastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia third.

The final day of competition was the shortest, but kicked off with one of the longest stages of the season - the 48.21 kilometre run from Ascochinga to Agua de Oro. Three short stages followed, concluding with the 3.90 kilometre Power Stage, in which additional points are awarded to the fastest three drivers through this single stage. Here, Petter Solberg claimed three additional points, with Hirvonen and Loeb taking an additional two and one point respectively.

Sunday morning, Ogier started the day with a 43.7 second advantage and was comfortably maintaining his lead in the long opening stage until rolling just a kilometre from the end. The Frenchman also broke the power steering and was forced to carry on like this for the remaining three stages. He ultimately lost his lead in the final stage of the rally, overhauled by both Loeb and Hirvonen. Petter Solberg claimed fourth, he too experiencing power steering problems in the closing stages.

RALLY D'ITALIA SARDEGNA
OLBIA, SARDINIA, ITALY
MAY 5 - 8, 2011(Round 5)

SEBASTIEN LOEB GETS SECOND WIN OF 2011

The Citroen Total World Rally Team crew of Sebastien Loeb and Daniel Elena claimed their fourth victory in Rally Italia Sardegna today. The crew outpaced their rivals and finished 11.2 seconds ahead of the Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally Team pairing of Mikko Hirvonen/Jarmo Lehtinen, with Petter Solberg and Chris Atkinson coming home in third position, their first podium of the season.

In the FIA World Rally Championship for Drivers, Loeb extends his lead and heads Hirvonen by seven points. Sebastien Ogier and Jari-Matti Latvala are third and fourth respectively. In the Manufacturers' Championship, Citroen also heads the leaderboard with a 17 point advantage over Ford.

The final day of competition in Sardinia covered just four stages and 65.58 competitive kilometres concluding with the Power Stage, in which additional points are awarded to the fastest three drivers through this single stage. Hirvonen took honours in the stage, claiming an additional three points, while Latvala and Loeb took more points for finishing second and third respectively.

Loeb started the day with a 20.2 second lead and was never seriously challenged throughout the final day. Behind him, the battle for second position raged, until Sebastien Ogier dropped back to fourth after hitting a rock and breaking the rear suspension in SS17. As a consequence, Solberg climbed to third leaving Ogier to take fourth. Mads Ostberg claimed fifth with Dani Sordo taking points in the debut competitive outing of the MINI John Cooper Works WRC. Ott Tanak took seventh, also claiming victory in the FIA Super 2000 World Rally Championship.

LOEB REJOICES AFTER ITALY WIN

"Leading from nearly the start that's really a good job," said Loeb. "Mikko was pushing very hard behind so we really had to take big risks all the time. We lost time in some places because of the cleaning but we took it back in some other places. It was really a hard fight but I did not believe at the start of the rally that I could make it like this."

Portugal's stages, include a mixture of open roads and technical and narrow sections, and are characterised by their abrasive surface. This puts the main onus on tire wear.

SEBASTIEN OGIER WINS RALLY PORTUGAL

By winning the Vodafone Rally de Portugal, Sebastien Ogier claimed his third victory since breaking into the world championship's top division three years ago.

Driving a Citroen DS3 WRC, Ogier with co driver Julien Ingrassia produced stellar performance to get their second successive triumph on the tire destroying gravel stages of the Algarve.

After the rally, Ogier said: "I'm very happy, we had the perfect weekend, the car was perfect and Julien was perfect. I would like to dedicate this victory to all the team who prepared a perfect car. They showed trust in me since the start of the season and following my mistake in Mexico. It is the best way to come back. It is a long way to go in the championship but I'm in a better position."

RALLY MEXICO

This is the seventh year Rally Mexico has been included on the FIA World Rally Championship calendar. Based in Leon, the fifth largest city in Mexico, the event remains one of the most compact on the calendar, and is unique in that the elevation of the stages takes the crews to 2,737 metres above sea level, providing additional challenges for man and machinery.

SEBASTIEN LOEB WINS MEXICO RALLY

Reigning FIA World Rally Champions Sebastien Loeb and Daniel Elena claimed their first win of the season today, taking their fifth victory in Rally Guanajuato Mexico, the second round of the FIA World Rally Championship. After yet more dramatic action over the closing stages, Ford's Mikko Hirvonen and Jarmo Lehtinen finished second with team mates Jari-Matti Latvala and Miikka Anttila third.

In the FIA World Rally Championship for Drivers, Hirvonen continues to lead the series with a nine point advantage over Loeb. Latvala is third, a further six points adrift. In the Manufacturers' Championship, Ford Abu Dhabi leads by 26 points ahead of the Citroen Total World Rally Team.

The final day of the event took in just three stages and 62 competitive kilometres, concluding with the 8.28 kilometre Guanajuato Power Stage which rewarded the three fastest drivers through this single stage with additional Championship points. Mikko Hirvonen was quickest, claiming an additional three points. Remarkably Loeb and Petter Solberg finished the stage joint second, which resulted in Loeb taking the position when times were calculated back to a thousandth of a second.

The drama started early this morning in the first stage when rally leader Sebastien Ogier went off the road with victory in sight. The Frenchman damaged the front left wheel of the DS3 WRC and was forced into retirement after an impressive drive all weekend. In the following stage Henning Solberg had a problem with the alternator belt, and in the final Power Stage Federico Villagra was forced to slow due to a broken drive shaft. All other crews returned to Leon without problems.

HIRVONEN WINS RALLY SWEDEN

"It's absolutely fantastic," said Mikko Hirvonen, who was co-driven by countryman Jarmo Lehtinen, after the rally. "It's so nice to win the first rally in the new Fiesta also. I have to say I was really nervous before the start of the last stage but now I am really happy to have made such a good start to the season."

KEN BLOCK COMES IN 14TH-HIS THOUGHTS

"I have to say it was the most frustrating event I have come to in two or three years. I knew the rally would be difficult but I did not know the handicap I had. I enjoyed it. I got the percentage of loss on each stage down to a semi acceptable level. I hope to go back next year and do better."
