NEWS FROM THE WORLD CUP OF MOTORSPORTS- SCCA PRO RACING WORLD CHALLENGE SERIES
The SCCA PRO RACING WORLD CHALLENGE is one of the premier sport car racing series in North America. This series has made many visits to Canada in the last two decades.
In 2010 the SCCA Pro World Challenge will visit Canada twice. The 1st appearance being a double header at the Mosport Victoria Day SpeedFest Weekend, May 21-23, 2010.
The 2nd SCCA Pro World Challenge appearance will be at the Honda Indy Toronto, July 16-20, 2010.
New for 2010, the SCCA World Challenge Racing Series will run all classes, including the newly formed GTS, in the same races. This will increase the car count per race and with 3 classes running together should make for great passing action.

MID-OHIO SPORTS CAR COURSE
LEXINGTON, OHIO, AUGUST 6 - 8, 2010
"It's been a great opportunity to come here," Skeen said of running the car that scored its third win of the season (Ron Fellows won at Mosport and Watkins Glen). "I've got to thank Nick Short and CRP Racing for putting me in the Cragar Wheels Corvette. They told me at the start that the traction control wasn't worth messing with, so I basically just revved it up and got too much wheel spin. I figured that was better than stalling it on the grid, but we lost a few positions on the start."
"I followed James (Sofronas) for several laps to get a feel for the race pace. When he got caught up in traffic I went by going into turn two with a pretty easy pass going into the keyhole. With traffic, the ebb and flow just went our way today."

SCCA WC - HONDA INDY TORONTO
TORONTO, ONTARIO, JULY 16 - 18, 2010
TORONTO, ON. (July 17, 2010) - "It starts with a car that was extremely well set up by the K-Pax Racing team," Pobst said. "Will Moody, the engineer, is pretty brilliant. The car handled and drove extremely well. The interesting situation in World Challenge right now is that our Volvo, because of the advantage of the all-wheel drive, we weigh a lot more. The way it seems to be working out is that we can turn a really good qualifying lap and we seem to go strongly the first two or three laps and then the weight takes its toll. The tires get hot, the brakes get hot and it starts turning into a race. But, it is a great advantage to be first, because it's a lot easier to lead than to get around somebody."
"Our Acura was running very well to get the pole this morning," Cunningham said. "I've been kind of concerned about how my starts have been lately, but today I got a really good start, which was the only reason I was able to stay ahead of Ernie going into (Turn) 1. From there, I had things pretty well figured out, but then with the full-course yellow, you never know what's going to happen on those restarts. Again, I was able to get just a little bit of breathing room after a lap or so. From there, it was just a matter of dealing with the GT cars coming to put us a lap down and dealing with some of the Touring Car traffic and trying to put a lap on them and from there, just make it to the end. It was a good day for Acura."
Nick Wittmer, after his Touring Car win in the SCCA world Challenge rushed off to race in the Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship which started just 20 minutes later.

EVENT 4, WATKINS GLEN INTERNATIONAL
WATKINS GLEN, NEW YORK, JULY 2 - 4, 2010
WATKINS GLEN, NY. (July 3, 2010) - "I locked the rear tires as well, which is why I ended up moving in behind him," Fellows said. "I was going to make a move to the inside, but he went in deep. He was closer to the two marker, and I was braking somewhere between the three and the two, and it was way too early in the race and we would have ended up just banging doors. My car had a bit of a twitch, but when Randy went off, I went by."
From there, Fellows cruised to his second consecutive World Challenge win, averaging 104.056 mph over the 22-lap, 74.8-mile race. Fellows also turned the race's fastest lap at 1:55.672 (105.816 mph).
"This is my last race of three with CRP Racing," Fellows said of his World Challenge plans. "We had picked three that I really wanted to do - Long Beach, my home track of Mosport on their 50th anniversary, and here because I hadn't done the long course before. I've got to think Cragar Wheels for the opportunity.
"When I first started in the Trans-Am Series, we ran on the NASCAR weekend and ran the short course, and of course again in my NASCAR starts. But I must say, the long course is awesome. That is the most fun section of the race track, and it's surprising how much grip you can generate through turn six. I really enjoyed it, and I'm glad to get a win in the Corvette."

Mississauga native Ron Fellows returned to Mosport after a three year absence to take the checker flag in the GT Class at his home track for the Victoria Day Speedfest Presented by Optima Batteries. Saturday's winner Randy Pobst finished first in Sunday's qualifying but in the race, Ron Fellows and his Corvette came on strong. The 'Mayor of Mosport' ruled once again, as he captured Sunday's World Challenge GT race. Montreal's Kuno Wittmer finished in fourth spot. First year driver Fred Roberts of Toronto was the highest in the field, at ninth for the second straight day, and takes control in the rookie of the year battle.
For the second consecutive day in the GTS Class, John Heinricy of Holly, MI took the top spot while point's leader Peter Cunningham of Milwaukee, WI finished third.
The Touring Class winner was rookie driver Robert Stout of Brownsburg, IN.

Kuno Wittmer after the race - "The most important thing was to get off the line," Wittmer said. "I had Brandon behind me and I know he has two years of experience with the standing start in his car. I only have three races now in the Viper. On top of that, we had the two all wheel drive Volvos sitting second and fourth. But, they didn't really get off the line."
"I got away and looked in the mirror and saw Brandon behind me and I was just trying to pace myself and not look back," Wittmer continued. "Brandon put the pressure on early. He was catching us for sure at different points. But the Viper product proved to be the car to have today. The team really did a great job. I can tell you, for the next month, before the next race, I know that car is going to be in pieces, going through it trying to make it quicker."

EVENT 1, STREETS OF ST. PETERSBURG
ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA, MARCH 26 - 28, 2010
RANDY POBST WINS OPENER
Randy Pobst, of Gainesville, Ga., opened up the 2010 World Challenge GT season with a flag to flag win at the Acura Sports Car Challenge of St. Petersburg.
"It was all about the K-Pax racing team and the work they did all winter on our Volvo S60s," Pobst said of the run. "We had very little test time, because they worked their butts off all winter. We just got the cars together a week or two ago. We're just thrilled, this was really just our test session today. The St. Petersburg Grand Prix circuit suits our car really well, because the Volvo is all-wheel drive. The straights are short, the corners are tight, and we're just monsters through the back sections. The Porsches gave us a real battle, and St. Petersburg is my kind of place. I've won the last three races I've run here in hot World Challenge action."
