This Stock Car series was formerly known as the CASCAR Sportsman Series, but was abandoned by NASCAR as the CASCAR SUPER SERIES turned into the NASCAR CANADIAN TIRE SERIES. Not to be stopped, the Ontario Sportsman Series was created to carry on.
The first year (2007) saw a 12 race schedule with an appearance at the Mosport Oval June 16th 2007. The other events were at Cayuga Speedway June 23, Sauble Speedway June 30, Peterborough Speedway July 21, Sunset Speedway August 25 and Cayuga Speedway again on september 1. Each race day included qualifying and two 50 lap races.
A total of 24 drivers received points in the inaugural year, and the numbers are expected to grow in coming years.
New for 2009 the Ontario Sportsman Series is pleased to announce Lucas Oil as the title sponsor for the series.
The Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup will be competing at tracks throughout the summer including Cayuga Speedway, Mosport Speedway, Peterborough Speedway, Capital City Speedway, Sauble Speedway and Delaware Speedway.

OSS PUTS ON GREAT SHOW AT CAPITAL CITY
The Lucas Oil Ontario Sportsman Cars rolled into Capital City Speedway on August 8th. It would be the return of what was once called the Cascar Sportmans Series, for the first time in many years.
It was also nice to once again to see the grand stands packed and lines forming at the concession stands as this year has been a bit of a downer the Capital city speedway. However the big crowd, and the great racing should go a long way in rekindling our fans excitement as well as our racers excitement as everyone likes to see a full house.
Getting back to the Ontario Sportsman Cars a very familiar face to Capital City Speedway, Steve Robblee was the over all winner as he one the first 50 lapper and finished second in the second 50 for the over all championship. What was truly nice was the fact the Steve finished second to his son Matt Robblee in the second portion of the twin 50 lap event. This made for a very emotional winners circle to say the least as Steve and Matt where surrounded by friends and family for the picture taking.

ROBBLEE AND MCGLYNN WIN FEATURES AT PETERBOROUGH SPEEDWAY
The Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series presented by Benson Auto Parts were in action Saturday night at Peterborough Speedway for round two of their championship season.
The night started with qualifying and Shawn McGlynn was able to put the fastest time on the board during qualifying, with Steve Robblee second, the only other driver to crack the 15 second barrier at Canada's Fastest 1/3-mile track.
The inversion put Mike Alguire on the pole for the first 50 lap main event, and Alguire took advantage of the starting position, blasting out into the lead with series rookie Dan Prudhomme tucking into line in second. The pair would run nose to tail until well after halfway when Robblee made his appearance at the front following his run from a ninth place starting position.
As the laps wore down, Robblee was able to get by Prudhomme for second and started to put the head on Alguire. Mike tried to hold him off, but a little slip was enough to open the door for Robblee who walked right through and won his second 50-lapper of the season in three starts.
Robblee spoke about the pass for the win in victory lane, "Mike just slipped up a bit and that was all I needed. Our car still isn't perfect, and we're going to make some changes for the next 50 lapper and see if we can't tighten it up a bit."
Alguire finished second, with Prudhomme holding on for third. Dave Connelly and Brennan Didero rounded out the top five. Matt Robblee overcame a huge crash in practice when his throttle stuck, as the crew fixed the car and Matt drove the ‘modified looking machine' to a sixth-place finish.
With the lead lap cars inverted for the second 50 lapper Cole Weber and Tim Tolten led the field to the green flag for the second 50 lapper with Weber grabbing the early lead. He would hold on until lap eight when Tolton took command. Tolton, making his first start in the series would fight to hold off McGlynn, who took the lead briefly during a restart, and then later held off Matt Robblee, before a restart with 10 laps to go and Steve Robblee on his outside.
Robblee tried to clear Tolton, but the rookie Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup driver would hold serve briefly before Robblee then tried the low side and moved into the lead on lap 43. Tolton was fighting to hold onto second when disaster struck as he hand grenaded a motor heading into turn three. He spun and slapped the wall, while a number of other cars got in the same oil and then found themselves in the concrete, including Mark Patrick, who got his Chevy right up on the wall.
The race restarted with Robblee and Prudhomme on the front row and McGlynn in third. Prudhomme got the jump on Robblee and took the lead, but Steve was still on the hunt. On the final lap, he made contact with Prudhomme, let him get straight and then continued his assault as they entered turn three. McGlynn had gotten a run on both of them on the outside and got into the rear of Prudhomme entering turn three. Robblee dove low under Dan, who was trying to keep his #96 straight while McGlynn zipped to the high line. McGlynn would pull off the pass, while Robblee was able to get by on the bottom, with McGlynn winning the race back to the stripe, and Robblee coming home second, while Prudhomme finished third.
McGlynn spoke about his rally to victory, "We were burning up a rear end all night and had to fight that, and the car wasn't perfect, but I just got a run on those two guys and was able to make the pass on the high side. It was one wild finish, and I sure hope the fans enjoyed that."
Prudhomme was upset about victory slipping through his grasp so close to the end of the event, "I got a great restart and got Steve, and was just trying to keep him behind me. I was running my line, and I don't think it should have ended like that. The easiest thing to do is dump somebody."
Pole sitter Weber was able to finish fourth, while Dave Connelly overcame a flat tire on the red flag for the Tolton blown motor to come back and finish fifth.

EVENT 2 - MOSPORT SPEEDWAY
GRAND PRIX KARTWAYS TWIN SHOOT-OUT
JUNE 13, 2009
The OSS drivers competed in two 50-lap races at Mosport Speedway.
In pre-race qualifying, the fast time of 22.54 seconds was set by the #66 of Josh Wood, but a random draw led to the top ten cars being inverted on the grid which handed the pole position to Mitch Brown (#10).
In the incident-filled (7 Cautions) sprint, the lead was exchanged between the #19 of Ken Trevellin, past Mosport race winner Steve Robblee and Wood. Leading the second half of the race, Wood looked to be in a position to win, but a late race caution regrouped the field, setting up a green/white/checker finish. Unfortunately, on the restart Wood, who had been struggling with a broken trailing arm in his #66 machine, spun in the final turn and came to rest against the front straight wall. Another attempt resulted in the victory going to Steve Robblee in his #28 Grogan Ford who managed to fend off the #11 of Cole Weber at the line.
"That was a bit of a wild race," admitted Robblee. "There was a lot of bumping and grinding going on."
The second race was a less damaging affair, and had only three caution periods. In the end it was a flag-to-flag victory for Matt Robblee (son of Steve), who sported his family colours in Victory Lane.
Running virtually unchallenged throughout the 50-lap race, Robblee suffered only one scare when, late in the event on used-up rubber, he slid high in corner three. He was able to recover in time to hold the position, and took the checkered flag three car lengths in front of his persistent father.
"I'm glad it was Dad behind me, that could have gotten messy," said the younger Robblee.
Steve Robblee edged out Josh Wood at the stripe for the runner-up spot. Mitch Brown (#10) and Brennan Didero (#24) rounded out the top five finishers.
