RON FELLOWS TAKES THE LONG WAY HOME TO MOSPORT

Monday, May 17th, 2010 by Rolf

An 8,500 KM Round-trip Worth It To Race For Local Fans

BOWMANVILLE, ON - Ron Fellows lives in the Toronto suburb of Mississauga, Ontario, a 100 km drive east to his home track, Mosport International Raceway.

But his journey to the track this weekend for the World Challenge Series race, part of Mosport’s season opening the Victoria Day SpeedFest (May 21-23), will be anything but a typical commute across the northern boundaries of the Greater Toronto Area.

In fact, after leaving Mosport this Wednesday, Fellows will make an 8,500 km round-trip, before he’s strapped into his #2 Cragar Wheels Chevy Corvette for Sunday morning’s qualifying session to set the grid for the 50 minute race later that afternoon.

Why? He’s an ambassador for the American Le Mans Series Corvette team
competing this weekend on the Pacific coast in Monterey, CA. and had
committed to promotional work with the ALMS team prior to confirming his World Challenge Series race program.

So, following a test session this Wednesday morning at Mosport to
reacquaint himself with the demanding 4-km road course (Fellows hasn’t raced here since ‘07 in ALMS and World Challenge), he will go to
Toronto’s Pearson International Airport to catch a flight to San
Francisco and then drive up to Monterey. He’ll spend three days there
before catching a Saturday night red eye flight - via Calgary - back
to Toronto early Sunday morning, and head straight to Mosport to be at the track for the 9:30 am World Challenge qualifying session.

Although he’s expects to be a little weary when he arrives at Mosport
Sunday, Fellows says the long round trip is worth it to race again at
Mosport and in front of his hometown fans.

“It’s an opportunity for me to compete at Mosport during their 50th
anniversary season celebration and hopefully put on a show for the fans. I
know there will be lots of Corvette enthusiasts there and we’ll do our best to make them happy,” said Fellows, one of Canada’s most accomplished road racers and a multi time Mosport winner.

“It’s going to be difficult because I’ll be a little sleep deprived
and jet-lagged, but it’s not any different from doing the 24 Hours of
Le Mans, where you’re up all day and all night. You’re tired but you
figure out a way to get yourself energized, focused and to concentrate.”

Fellows is looking forward to getting behind the wheel again of his CRP Corvette following his debut with the team in Long Beach last month, when a mechanical failure knocked him out of the race after running as high as fourth.

“This is a privateer team and the owner, Nicholas Short, has done a good job. He runs a smart operation and it has been great fun. I’ve always enjoyed the format of the World Challenge events. These are short, intense races and the standing starts are awesome. You’ve got
multi manufacturers and its part of the enjoyment of racing in this
Series.”

This weekend is a doubleheader for the World Challenge Series, with the first race going Saturday at 2:50 pm. Also on the schedule is the SCCA Trans-Am Series, the Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship (a Saturday/Sunday doubleheader) and the Sundown Grand Prix endurance race.

The racing action starts Friday with a full day of testing for all four championships. Saturday is a mix of practice and qualifying in the morning, followed by races for the Castrol Touring cars, World Challenge and the Sundown Grand Prix. Sunday morning opens with more qualifying and then races in World Challenge, Castrol Touring and Trans-Am to close out the weekend.

The three day weekend SuperTicket is just $50 until May 19 ($60 at the Gate). Single day tickets are also available.

TWO-WEEK COUNTDOWN TO MOSPORT’S SEASON OPENER

World Challenge, SCCA Trans-Am, Castrol Canadian Touring Car and
Sundown Grand Prix Highlight Mosport's Victoria Day SpeedFest Weekend

(BOWMANVILLE, ON – May 5, 2010) In a little over two weeks, Mosport
International Raceway will kick off its 50th anniversary season with the
sights and sounds of thundering GT and Touring car racers on the Victoria
Day SpeedFest Weekend, May 21-23.

A fireworks show will light up the skies Saturday night and fans will also
see fireworks on track all weekend long as some of North America's best
road racing sedan championships - the World Challenge Series, the SCCA
Trans-Am Series, the Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship and the
classic Sundown Grand Prix endurance race into darkness - take to the 4-km
circuit for Mosport’s traditional holiday season-opener.

Headlining the three-day weekend is a World Challenge doubleheader, with
combined class races for GT, GTS and Touring cars. This year the Series
has coined “Sports Car Wars” as their marketing theme and the entry
list lives up to it, with a grid full of popular brands such as Acura,
Aston Martin, BMW, Corvette, Honda, Mazda, Porsche, Viper and Volvo.
Montreal’s Kuno Wittmer, coming off a victory at Long Beach to place him
second in points, will have his work cut out for him as he battles against
the Volvo one-two punch of Randy Pobst and Andy Pilgrim and Porsche driver
and current GT points leader, Dino Crescentini.

The SCCA Trans-Am Series returned to Mosport last season after a six-year
hiatus. They have a storied history at Mosport which dates back to 1976
and became a popular Victoria Day tradition beginning in the mid 1990's.
German Klaus Graf is coming off a win at Virginia and will be a race
favourite in his Jaguar XKR.

The country's top sedan road-racing series, the Castrol Canadian Touring
Car Championship, makes its first of three season stops at Mosport
boasting a 40-car field with several new teams and marques competing in
Touring and Super Touring classes. This is a doubleheader weekend for the
Championship.

The Sundown Grand Prix endurance race into darkness on Saturday returns to
SpeedFest for a sixth consecutive year. There will be GT and Touring cars
competing for overall and class wins.

It wouldn't be a Victoria Day weekend celebration without Mosport’s
popular fireworks show scheduled for Saturday night after the Sundown GP.

The racing action starts Friday (May 21) with a full-day of testing for
all four championships. Saturday (May 22) is a mix of practice and
qualifying in the morning, followed by races for the Castrol Touring cars,
World Challenge and the Sundown Grand Prix. Sunday (May 23) morning opens
with more qualifying and then races in World Challenge, Castrol Touring
and Trans-Am to close out the weekend.

The three-day weekend SuperTicket is just $50 until May 19 ($60 at the
Gate). Single-day tickets are also available. Each ticket includes
parking, access to the race team paddock, Motorsport Expo and Marketplace
and admission to Mosport Speedway's Saturday Night Stock Car season-opener
at the half-mile paved oval located on the grounds. As with all Mosport
events, children 12 and under are admitted for free when accompanied by a
paid adult admission.

Camping is a popular part of the Mosport experience, with advanced general
camping passes just $35 for the weekend when purchased before May 19
(tents or pop-up trailers). Advance RV passes are $55.

For those who would like to get closer to the action, the SpeedFest Corral
offers a VIP hospitality package which includes a meet and greet with the
drivers, race team tech sessions, an opportunity to drive their car on the
track in a parade lap and a BBQ lunch on Sunday, all for just $100.

A longtime sports car and road-racing veteran, Fellows is credited with three class championships in the American Le Mans Series, two class wins in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and 19 overall victories in the Sports Car Club of America’s Trans-Am Series as a member of the Corvette Racing Team.

Fellows made 14 World Challenge GT starts between 2004 and 2007, earning three wins (Mosport in 2004, Mosport in 2005, and Long Beach in 2006) and seven podium finishes. Fellows also was fastest qualifier three times.

CRP Racing owner, Nicholas Short, is excited to have a driver of Ron Fellows’ caliber join the team. Says Short: “I’ve known Ron since the Trans-Am days and when the opportunity arose to have him drive for us, it was a very easy decision. I couldn’t be happier having him join CRP Racing.”

Also joining the CRP Racing Team is primary sponsor Carlisle Companies, Inc. which is a diversified global manufacturing company serving industries ranging from foodservice to aerospace to specialty trailers to construction materials to specialty tires and wheels. Carlisle will use the opportunity to promote their Cragar, Black Rock™ & ITP™ wheel brands and ITP™ Off-Road and Carlisle trailer tire brands. In the past, Carlisle has been involved in off-road racing with its ITP™ and Black Rock™ brands. Cars equipped with ITP™ tires earned class wins at the 2009 Baja 500 and 1000 off-road races. David Roberts, Chairman, President and CEO of Carlisle Companies, Inc., said: “Carlisle is headquartered in the heart of racing country, Charlotte, NC. We manufacture tires, wheels and power transmission belts used in some of the toughest racing environments. Our sponsorship of cars in last year’s Baja 500 and 1000 races were successful as class wins were achieved by cars using ITP™ tires and wheels. Partnering with CRP and Ron Fellows is an extension of our commitment to the performance and motorsports industry. Our Cragar wheel brand was the wheel of choice by many of the top names in motorsports in the past and we look forward to rekindling that preference. Cragar branded products continue to be a favorite with hot rod and muscle car enthusiasts. The introduction of the Black Rock™ brand for the off-road enthusiast has been extremely successful and we want to continue that success. I think the association with CRP Racing will allow us to accomplish our goals. In addition, many of our employees are racing enthusiasts and successful amateur racers. Sponsoring CRP Racing is a natural fit for us and allows our products and people to be involved in motorsports.”

With the support of Carlisle Companies, Inc. and the talent and skill of driver Ron Fellows, CRP Racing looks forward to running a highly competitive race team in the World Challenge GT Series this season.
