THE LMS RACE CLASSES FOR 2010

LMP1 (Le Mans Prototype 1):
The LMP1's such as the Audi R15 TDI, Acura ARX-02, Peugeot 908 HDi and Zytek 07S cars produce between 600-700 horsepower, have a minimum weight of 900 kilograms (approximately 1,985 pounds), can accelerate from 0-100 mph in three (3) seconds and reach top speeds in excess of 200 mph.

LMP2 (Le Mans Prototype 2):

GT1 (Grand Touring 1):

GT2 (Grand Touring 2):
The GT2 class is more moderately modified, two-wheel drive race cars and are some of the most recognized sports cars in the world - Aston Martin Vantage GT2, BMW M3, Corvette C6.R, Dodge Viper Competition Coupe, Ferrari F430 GT, Ford GT-R, Panoz Esperante GTLM and Porsche 911 GT3 RSR. GT2 cars put out between 450-500 horsepower and have a minimum weight of 1,145 kilograms (2,480 pounds).

FLM (Formula Le Mans):
All the Oreca prepared FLM cars are technically strictly identical: a carbon body, a weight of approximately 900 kilos, a V8/6 200 cc engine on a GM base with an output of 430 hp.

AUTOSPORT 1000 KM OF SILVERSTONE
GREAT BRITAIN, SEPTEMBER 10 -11- 12, 2010

Another Le Mans Series classic: the 1000 Km of Silverstone. Traditionally established as final race of the season, the 2010 edition will respect the rule. Held over 3 days, the British race is always one of all challenges for the teams and drivers, such as Jean Christophe Boullion in 2009, admired by all for his incredible comeback trying to win against all odds until the very last moment. The British soil witnesses these heroes' assaults.

1000 KM OF HUNGARORING
HUNGARY, AUGUST 21- 22, 2010

Another novelty for Le Mans Series: Hungary. The race, which will be held over two days, will be the season's second night race.

The Hungaroring circuit, 19 Km from Budapest, is nicknamed the "Turnstile". Measuring 4,381 Km, it is very narrow and winding. Built along a natural valley and flanking the hillsides, its natural implantation allows an 80% visibility of the circuit for practically all the spectators, wherever they may be. It will be a first for the teams who will discover during this nocturnal race, life... "by night" in Hungary!

STRAKKA RACING MAKES HISTORY

The twists and turns of the Hungaroring test cars and drivers to the absolute limit. With a high level of downforce, exceptionally low grip and high track temperatures, the 1,000Km of Hungaroring have been very demanding on drivers, teams and cars.Nobody could hold a candle to Strakka Racing's Danny Watts on Sunday morning's qualifying in Hungary, and the British team's overall victory made history with the very first overall victory for a LMP2 car in the Le Mans Series.

1000 KM OF ALGARVE
PORTUGAL, JULY 15 -16- 17, 2010

The first edition on Portuguese soil in 2009 was a success: summer ambiance, high tech circuit, a present public - everything combined to make this meeting one the series musts! The Le Mans Series competitors will return to the Portimao circuit for this night race after having had time to recover from the 24 hour race.

TEAM ORECA MATMUT ON A ROLL

Team ORECA Matmut Peugeot 908 HDi FAP
THE TEAM ORECA MATMUT PEUGEOT 908 HDi FAP AT ALGARVE

What a difference two months can make in sportscars racing! Circumstance, excellent strategy and brilliant driving today in Portugal won Team ORECA Matmut its first race with the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP.

The 1000Km of Algarve saw Nicolas Lapierre, Olivier Panis and Stephane Sarrazin emerge victorious to take their and Team ORECA Matmut's first victory of the 2010 season as they have driven an absolutely faultless race. Given French team's pace this season, it's hard to believe that their victory was only their first win of the season.

In a no full course caution race, the Frenchmen delivered a solid drive, holding fast at the front till the end in front of so many fans who enjoyed a herringbone start, the traditional Le Mans start, for the very first time in the Series.

The Belgian track, winding and hilly is a big challenge for the drivers but also for the machines and remains one of the favourite circuits of all motor sports lovers.

In front of the many enthusiastic spectators, the line-up for the start is often the biggest of the season. This year, the tradition of the Belgian race will no doubt be respected.

PEUGEOT WINS THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE

THE TEAM PEUGEOT TOTAL 908 HDi FAP AT THE SPA

Sunday's Belgian race produced one of the most nail biting races in several seasons to date, mostly because of changing weather conditions, but also because of the tough fight between Audi and Peugeot factory teams.

The pressure on Team Peugeot Total was massive going into the Spa weekend, and the team delivered in a style that suggests they still are highly competitive with a 1-2 victory.

The Team Peugeot Total trio of Pedro Lamy, Sebastien Bourdais and Simon Pagenaud scored an outright win in the second round of the 2010 Le Mans Series, taking the team's 908 HDi FAP from pole to checkered flag victory, for the great pleasure of 38,000 race fans.

8 HOURS OF THE CASTELLET - PAUL RICARD CIRCUIT
FRANCE, APRIL 9 -10- 11, 2010

The first race of the 2010 Le Mans Series season will be held on the Castellet circuit, in the south of France, on 9, 10 and 11 April. This circuit, both ultra modern and firmly rooted in the history of motor sports which has just reopened its doors to the public, has welcomed the Official Tests of the Series since 2004 and will do so again in 2010 on 7 and 8 March.

For an exceptional race, an exceptional format! The opening of the season will not be done with the usual 1000 Km schema (or 6 hours), but will last 8 hours with a late morning start and an arrival at sunset around 7pm.

THE AUDI R15 PLUS ON FRONT ROW ON ITS DEBUT

The Audi R15 TDI, model year 2010 (internally labeled "R15 plus") has won its race debut at Le Castellet (France) and in doing so left a strong impression.

Aston Martin Racing ranks second with its Aston Martin Lola 009; while Jean-Christophe Boullion revives victory thanks to the Rebellion Racing team's Lola B01/60 Coupe Rebellion. In LMP2, until the last minute, victory was uncertain after a race essentially leaded by the OAK Racing team. In GT2, the local hero and former F1 driver Jean Alesi, in association with Giancarlo Fisichella and Toni Vilander, is on the podium as his first race in Le Mans Series!

Le Mans Series

Le Mans Series course d'endurance 1000km

Strakka Racing makes history!

The twists and turns of the Hungaroring test cars and drivers to the absolute limit. With a high level of downforce, exceptionally low grip and high track temperatures, the 1,000Km of Hungaroring have been very demanding on drivers, teams and cars.

Nobody could hold a candle to Strakka Racing's Danny Watts on Sunday morning's qualifying in Hungary, and the British team's overall victory made history with the very first overall victory for a LMP2 car in the Le Mans Series.

Jonny Kane, Nick Leventis and Danny Watts have been pretty invincible as the Strakka Racing HPD ran without the slightest technical problems over the entire distance and scored its second victory in LMP2 and first overall in the 2010 season today.

1000 Km of Hungaroring provisionnal classifications

The improbable race!

A podium trusted by the LMP2s, who could imagine? Could you foresee when arriving on the Hungarian track that one hour before the finish of the race, two LMP1s (N°4 Team Beechdean Mansell and N°8 Team Siganture Plus) would save the King category's honour among the ten first classified while the LMP2s would take the lion's share, trusting the five first places from half the race on?

After 5 hours
At one hour before the chequered flag is shown, the show is a première in the Le Mans Series history. An original classification with five LMP2s leading the pack. Team Beechdean Mansell is the only one to save the King category's honour remaining in the top tens. The trend is the same on the GT side. The LMGT2s overtake the powerful GT1s. Eight of them are ahead the Saleen S7-R (n°50 - Larbre Competition) which ranks 17.

Point sur la course après 4 heures
Il est 20 Heures sur le circuit hongrois. Le classement vient de connaître de nombreux bouleversements.

After four hours
It is now 20:00 on the Hungarian layout and the classification has known many changes.

After three hours
After three hours of competition spins are part and parcel of the race. At half way, the drivers must be very cautious. But prudence was not part and parcel of the Saleen S7-R driving which introduced the safety car on the track after having slipped off at the end of the straight line. This incident could allow Larbre Compétition to be the 2010 champion this evening.

1000 Km of Hungaroring Intermediate results

After two hours
After two hours of race now, the LMP1s have resumed control and are firmly decided to show who the boss is! Starting from the bottom of the grid (due to a change of tyres after the qualifications), the Signature Plus Lola Aston Martin has quickly worked its way through the pack to reach the fifth position. The LMP2s fiercely resist their big sisters assaults, but the lap time they are able to achieve does not give them many chances.

RLr MsSPORT: 31 = 13 !
Let's welcome RLR MSPORT, a brand new team joining the Le Mans Series on the occasion of the 1000Km of the Hungaroring.

Warm up
The end of the WARM UP is cancelled due to the slip off of FLM n° 48 of the Team Hope Pole Vision which leads to major works of the armco.

Thrilling! A première with an LMP2 in pole…

The 1000Km of the Hungaroring have offered a major development in the starting grid. Suspected after the free practices to be the most efficient cars on this layout, the les LMP2 have opened a new chapter in the Le Mans Series history with their first pole position.

The class war keeps on going!

Five LMP1 cars versus five LMP2 cars are in the Top 10 at the end of the third free practice session, which has been disrupted by two red flags. 25 minutes in the session, the IMSA Performance Matmut Porsche went off and ten minutes before the checkered flag, the CRS Racing Ferrari went on fire. The cars came back to the pits and it marked the end of today's free practice sessions.

First time in Hungary for Vanina Ickx
Just out of her LMP1 Lola Aston Martin, Vanina Ickx gives us her thoughts about her first laps on the Hungaroring layout. Amazed to see five categories gathered on this track, the Belgian lady driver has discovered "a tight sinuous circuit where vigilance shall be a must. The incident is behind each corner and the difference between the various speed averages is significant. LMGT1s and LMGT2s will have a hard job to rise in the classification, so the prototypes approaching their rear view mirrors will not be their major concern. P1s and P2s will have to be cautious to go through the traffic without taking any risk". She is not afraid by this difficulty. The race will be demanding, a major challenge for her debuts in Hungary. Vanina is very confident and well backed up by a skilled team.

First Le Mans Series session on the Hungaroring
The first free practice session is just over, giving a hint of the starting grid. In LMP1, Oreca 908 HDi-FAP Peugeot confirms its performances in Algarve, leading in front of LMP2 Strakka Racing's HPD ARX-01c. The LMGT1 two Saleens also confirm the trend with an advantage for Larbre Competition racing drivers. As for the Ferraris F430 GT (n°91 & n°95) of teams CRS Racing and AF Corse, they keep in with their advantage over Team Prospeed's Porsche in the LMGT2 category. The Formulas Le Mans promise interesting fights: four among the seven cars entered run within the same second.

Le Mans Series fireworks
Yesterday was Saint Stephen's Day, Hungarian national bank day. A good opportunity occasion for the Le Mans Series participants to amble through Budapest streets.

The paddock at the Michelin Green X Challenge cocktail
Yesterday, late afternoon, the paddock was back to school, after well deserved holidays. The usual Michelin Green X Challenge cocktail party took place and the graduate was for the first time Pegasus Racing.

Hungary celebrates Le Mans Series

The Le Mans Series competitors have been unpacking the whole Friday in the Hungaroring paddock. Teams and drivers can enjoy Hungary's national bank holiday St. Stephen's Day celebration, before tomorrow on-track activities.

Romain Dumas at 1000Km of Hungaroring

For its first time on the Hungaroring circuit next 21 and 22 August, Le Mans Series will welcome an important guest. After an extremely successful season, Romain Dumas will participate in the year's fourth race. The Frenchman wants to repeat his performances once again on the occasion of this Hungarian round.

The Hungarian rhapsody

The Le Mans Series heads to Hungary for the very first time so the 1,000Km of Hungaroring is a leap in the dark for most of teams and drivers. Team ORECA Matmut took their first victory with the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP one month ago in Portugal and expects to clinch another one in the heat of the night at Budapest.

The Hungaroring lies just east of Budapest and the Castle District of Buda has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The layout has not been too much modified over the years and the latest changes see the longest lap in the circuit's history with a total distance of 4.384 km.

With its slow corners and its narrow straights, many say its characteristics more closely resemble a street circuit than a purpose-built track. However, its beautiful setting in a natural amphitheatre makes it an excellent venue for spectators. They should enjoy a race that Team ORECA Matmut ex-Formula One driver Olivier Panis predicts tough.

A VIP Package for an exceptional race

On 21 and 22 August, Le Mans Series will go to Hungary for the first time. The 1000 Km of Hungaroring promises a colourful show. The drivers will be eager to put Hungary on their prize lists during this last night race. On the occasion of the season's next to last round, leaders and challengers will do all they can to be at the top of the classification before the final at Silverstone in September.

Team ORECA Matmut on a roll

What a difference two months can make in sportscars racing! Circumstance, excellent strategy and brilliant driving today in Portugal won Team ORECA Matmut its first race with the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP.

The 1000Km of Algarve saw Nicolas Lapierre, Olivier Panis and Stéphane Sarrazin emerge victorious to take their and Team ORECA Matmut's first victory of the 2010 season as they have driven an absolutely faultless race.

1000 Km of Algarve - Qualifying - Oreca once again on pole!

There hardly is any driver in the paddock that isn't welcoming the return to Portugal, and everyone is excited about the prospect of racing once again on the 4.652-kilometre Autódromo Internacional do Algarve.

Everything came together for Nicolas Lapierre when the flag dropped for the 20-minute qualifying. His last, and quickest lap, with a time of 1:30.681, was enough to secure the French driver his second pole in the 2010 series.

Because the race starts later in the afternoon, the morning schedule of the qualifying session was unusual, but Nicolas Lapierre was fully awake as he was able to repeat last year's pole for team ORECA Matmut.

A track lap with...Olivier Pla!

The Algarve circuit is fantastic because it is different from most new tracks. It has a good mixture of high speed and slow corners with a few blind turns and it winds up and down all the way. The track is interesting and very demanding.

You accelerate hard from the start line which goes slightly downhill. You brake hard and change down quickly from sixth to third gear for the first right-handed corner. This corner is tricky first because it is bumpy, but also because you have to carry the speed through the very short straight. The second corner is high speed which is taken flat out then hard on the brakes for the first hairpin, taken in first gear.[...]

After running the fourth Peugeot 908 HDi FAP in the Le Mans 24 Hours alongside the three works cars, the Team ORECA-Matmut will enter the French prototype in the next three rounds of the Le Mans Series: Portimao, Budapest, and Silverstone. Stéphane Sarrazin will be at the wheel of no.4 for the three events. As in the Le Castellet 8 Hours, when he came to lend the team a hand, the Peugeot Sport works driver will share the car with Nicolas Lapierre and Olivier Panis in the Portuguese round.

1000 Km of the Algarve - Entry list

After the « break » which traditionally separates the 24 Hours of Le Mans from the second half of the Le Mans Series season, our competitors are ready for Portugal and the 1000 Kms of Algarve.

On 16 and 17 July, they will all be present for this race held partly at night as the start will be given at 5 pm on Saturday for an arrival around 11 pm

Last year at the first edition of this Iberian race, Pescarolo Sport was under the spotlights of a lovely nocturnal podium! This year will Signature Plus, Oreca-Matmut or Rebellion Racing win this category? And in the other categories, who will shine in front of the Portuguese public? The answer in less than two weeks!

Congratulations!

The Le Mans Series organisation followed this wonderful edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans with emotion and pride. The whole team wishes to congratulate Audi for the magnificent triple victory which will go down in History. Also Peugeot, for the incredible, but alas, not rewarded, performances.

The race was played at many levels and Le Mans Series admires the teams participating all year long in the European labelled Le Mans. Once again their tenacity and professionalism was proved. A special thought to those who climbed on the world's most famous podium: ...

Le Mans Series supports the teams

The Le Mans Series organisation supports and encourages all the teams entered in the series and actively preparing for the start of the 24 Hours next Saturday.

From Peugeot Sport to BMW Motorsport, Audi Sport to Rebellion Racing, Oak Racing to the AF Corse team…Nearly all the teams who started the Endurance Racing season in our meetings will line up on the most famous starting grid in the world!

Peugeot wins the Battle of the Bulge

Sunday's Belgian race produced one of the most nail-biting races in several seasons to date, mostly because of changing weather conditions, but also because of the tough fight between Audi and Peugeot factory teams.

The pressure on Team Peugeot Total was massive going into the Spa weekend, and the team delivered in a style that suggests they still are highly competitive with a 1-2 victory.

The Team Peugeot Total trio of Pedro Lamy, Sébastien Bourdais and Simon Pagenaud scored an outright win in the second round of the 2010 Le Mans Series, taking the team's 908 HDi FAP from pole to checkered flag victory, for the great pleasure of 38,000 race-fans.

1000 Km of Spa classifications

Info

Peugeot has the advantage thanks to Sebastien Bourdais

After all the anticipation of the opening round of the Le Mans Series in Le Castellet one month ago, this weekend's second round is as eagerly awaited with many factory teams on the entry list.

Unlike the first two practice sessions, the qualifying session for the 1000Km of Spa was dry, and Team Peugeot Total's Sébastien Bourdais made the most of the conditions to take a well-deserved pole position.

The #3 908 HDi FAP put in a stunning performance at Spa being the quickest car in the second practice session yesterday and qualifying on pole position today from a field of 50 cars for tomorrow's second round of the Le Mans Series.

Jean Alesi and Giancarlo Fisichella: their feelings after the free sessions

Sportscars racing is a new challenge for ex-Formula One drivers Jean Alesi and Giancarlo Fisichella as the Italian driver explained: “It is not easy to share the cars with two other drivers. We only ran ten laps each in both practice sessions so it is not easy to find the limits of the car.”

Last year the driver from Rome was on pole for the Belgian Formula One Grand Prix, but this year, “it is not really important to be on pole – it is more important to finish the race,” Giancarlo said. “The race will be tough because the weather is always unpredictable here at Spa. Of course, it would be better for everyone that the track stays dry, but this morning I was the quickest on a wet track so rain would not be a problem.”

Exciting duels are awaited in every category and the level of competition will be higher than ever on the extremely technical Spa Francorchamps circuit, much appreciated by the drivers.

Drivers are all here: Jean Alesi, Sebastien Bourdais, Dindo Capello, Giancarlo Fisichella, Allan McNish, Nicolas Minassian, Olivier Panis, Stéphane Sarrazin and so many other that we cannot mention all of them!

To be noted: the absence of the Mansell family and their Beechdean Mansell Ginetta-Zytek 09S; because of technical incidents, the team prefers not to participate in this race.

Download the 1000 Km of Spa Francorchamps entry list and let yourself be guided by Belgian Vanina Ickx who describes in our official press release the details of this circuit that she knows by heart.

Audi on top form

What did we learn from the 8 Hours of Le Castellet? 2010 has all the hallmarks thus far of a brilliant season, with Audi battling it out with reigning champion Aston Martin Racing, and ORECA-Matmut moving forward to challenge both of them with the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP.

The first victory from Audi with the R15 Plus, a very successful debut of the ARX-01 in Europe, a practice session for Larbre Compétition in GT1 and a brilliant race from Porsche finishing in a GT2 victory.

The intensive off-season development work has obviously paid off for the bulk of the teams, as very few teams retired. The race has been very exciting till the end on the 5.791 km legendary track.

Double points for the first race

The Audi R15 Plus makes overwhelming debuts!

Near 14,000 spectators came to visit the Le Mans Series meeting, since Friday to finally support the Audi R15 Plus making its very firsts competition debuts.

ORECA feels at home
The wait is finally – almost – over. The qualification sessiona lready gave the first patterns of the season, but tomorrow is the D day. The first race of the season is a leap in the dark for everybody, but there are very few brand-new cars in 2010. The engineers have worked hard for the whole off-season to improve the existing cars.

Qualifyng: the team Oreca-Matmut’s Peugeot 908 HDi-FAP in pole position

Nicolas Lapierre, supported by his team mates Stéphane Sarrazin and Olivier Panis, made the best time in LMP1 this afternoon during the qualifying sessions. The team Oreca-Matmut's Peugeot 908 HDi-FAP will start the race on the first raw, ahead of the 41 cars entered, tomorrow at 11 am. But the game is only beginning, as the Audi R15 Plus is only a few tenths of seconds behind the French team, and certainly didn't show all its capacities…

Family picture!
The paddock is full up, all the teams are present … and so are the drivers; as shown on this family picture. Two practice sessions to polish the car tuning; and everyone is all set to perform on the track. 41 cars entered for this first race of the season, first Audi/Peugeot duel (the French manufacturer is represented by private team Oreca-Matmut and his official driver Stéphane Sarrazin), first of team Schnitzer's BMW M3 in GT2, first Le Mans Series race for F1 drivers Jean Alesi and Giancarlo Fisichella… The Le Mans Series season begins on top level at the Paul Ricard HTTT circuit!

A track lap with...Stéphane Sarrazin!

Peugeot works driver, Stéphane Sarrazin, will drive the Team ORECA-Matmut Peugeot 908 HDi FAP in the Castellet 8 Hours.

Join Stéphane to discover the Paul Ricard HTTT circuit that he knows so well:

“At the end of the start-finish line, you brake for the first tightened chicane “La Verrerie”, taken in second gear. This is a difficult corner, because there is a little bump and you have to find out the right time to accelerate. A quick squirt of power before you jump on the brakes for the right-handed “Hotel” corner. The “Camp” right-hander hairpin, taken in first gear, is upon you very quickly. You must stay on the left side to accelerate very early before the “Sainte Beaume” right-hander, which is the most difficult corner of the track. You can lose a lot of time if your car is not well-balanced. Then you are flat out in the left-hand corner at the beginning of the “Mistral” straight, where you reach the top speed..."

Stéphane Sarrazin: a surprise guest for the Oreca-Matmut team

Peugeot works driver, Stéphane Sarrazin, will drive the Team ORECA-Matmut Peugeot 908 HDi FAP in the Castellet 8 Hours.

The technical team and the other drivers will be able to benefit from his experience for their first round of the 2010 Le Mans Series Championship.

Today, Pierre Delettre, Spa-Francorchamps 1000 Km co-organiser (among others), kindly answers our questions.

Regulations evolution

Motor sport racing advances thanks to regulations which are alive and change as years go by, adapting to new technologies and enforcing others. Just like the backbone of an organism which grows and changes with the years, with the times.

This year, as usual, new chapters have been written, others modified. To help you understand the upcoming season, listed hereafter are the principle changes.
