AUTOSPORT 1000 KM OF SILVERSTONE

The 5th and final round of the LMS 2008 season takes the Le Mans Cars to Silverstone England. The event will be sponsored by Autosport, the UK's biggest selling weekly motorsport magazine. Sponsorship from the Haymarket Media Group re-creates the glory days of Silverstone's six-hour sportscar races from the 1980s that were also sponsored by Autosport.
The Autosport 1000km of Silverstone gives sportscar racing fans their first chance to see Audi and Peugeot renewing their epic Le Mans battle in Britain.
It also marks Scotsman Allan McNish's first race on "home" soil since his spectacular victory in this year's Le Mans 24 Hours.
Le Mans Series organizers declared : "We hope we are starting a long-term partnership between Le Mans Series and Autosport."We want the Autosport 1000km to become a regular event on the LMS calendar in the coming years."
Autosport editor Andy van de Burgt added: "It's fitting that the Autosport 1000km should be revived at such a great time for sportscar racing.

AUDI WINS LE MANS SERIES AND RACE AT SILVERSTONE
Dr Wolfgang Ullrich (Head of Audi Motorsport): "That was a placatory end of a difficult championship. We're proud to have won the Le Mans Series straight in our first year against such strong rivals. Maybe we dreamt that we'd be going home from here with race victory and the championship title but it was hard work. The whole team did a great job. The pit stops and the strategy were very good and the boys drove a constantly fast pace. We were at the level of our strongest rivals who took themselves out of the race due to accidents, and we made the maximum of the situation. Well done to the whole squad!"
Dindo Capello (Audi R10 TDI #1): "First of all, congratulations to our team-mates Alex (Premat) and 'Rocky' on their well-deserved title win. For Allan (McNish) and me it was a nice end of the Le Mans Series. We were fast at the first four races as well but always had some kind of problems. After the accident with Stephane Sarrazin, in which I feel – 101 per cent – that I was not at fault, I thought that this race was over for us as well. But we never gave up. Seasoned drivers, an experienced team and a great car make for a good combination to win a race which – just like Le Mans – seemed to have been lost already on paper. This race showed that people with a lot of will power and commitment can make the seemingly impossible possible. That's why Allan and I are proud to be part of this fantastic team. Audi won Le Mans, the ALMS and the LMS. Now I'm firmly keeping my fingers crossed for Audi to win the DTM title as well."
Allan McNish (Audi R10 TDI #1): "I believe that Dindo (Capello) and I deserve this victory, and so does everyone in the team – both the exploit at the finale and the champion's title. We fought hard this year. For Dindo and me things weren't always going as well as they should have. We had incidents when we were in the position to win races. I think 24 hours ago nobody would have expected Audi to win the race and the manufacturer's title and 'Rocky' and Alex (Premat) the drivers' title. Audi has had a clean sweep in sportscar racing this season: Le Mans, the American Le Mans Series and the now the Le Mans Series. A great year for Audi Sport."
Alexandre Premat (Audi R10 TDI #2): "It's simply fantastic for everyone in the team and of course for 'Rocky' and I. I think we did a good job all weekend as well as thoughout the year. The race was tough. Up to the final lap we were on edge because 20 minutes before the end of the race we had a damaged suspension. That was close! Fortunately, the mechanics did a great job yet again. Thank you, Audi. Thank you, Team Joest. Thank you also to Allan (McNish) and Dindo (Capello) from whom we were able to learn a lot this year."
Mike Rockenfeller (Audi R10 TDI #2): "I always believed that we could make it - and now it's come true. In a championship you've got to consistently score good points and we did that at the first four races. And today we scored the necessary points as well. Of course we'd have liked to win this race. But I'm extremely happy that our 'sister car' clinched this exploit here for Audi. Allan (McNish) and Dindo (Capello) had a lot of misfortune this year. Audi won the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the last race of the LMS and the championship - it's hard to top that. For Alex and me it was very important to clinch this title."
Ralf Jüttner (Technical Director Audi Sport Team Joest): "That was a strange and difficult race. Previous races already showed that Peugeot tends to make mistakes when they're under pressure. In my opinion, the Peugeot drivers clearly made mistakes here. Perhaps they got a little nervous because they didn't manage to drive away from us. After number 7 was out of the race, Alex (Premat) and 'Rocky' were able to drive very cautiously. Fortunately, we managed to eliminate the technical problem quickly. In the end, they only missed third place by a few seconds. But that doesn't matter: they're the champions and Allan (McNish) and Dindo (Capello) have won the race. The two pushed like hell and deserve this win. A fantastic result for Audi!"

RACE 2 OF 5 - MONZA ITALY, APRIL 27 2008

NICOLAS MINASSIAN GETS POLE POSITION
Peugeot gets the pole at Monza. Nicolas Minassian realized the best time - 1'31''606 -, just ahead of his Peugeot colleague Pedro Lamy and Audi rival Dindo Capello. Dindo received the best time of the two Audi R10 TDI's, and above all the best speed of the session: 322 km/h! Marc Gene will be the starter at Monza, as he was in Barcelona. But can we say that the result will turn out to be the same as the Spanish round? We'll have to let the drivers run the 1000 Km in order to know.

RACE 1 OF 5 - CATALUNYA SPAIN, APRIL 6 2008
Fantastic race yields win for Peugeot in Spain.
Peugeot won the 5th season opening race of the 2008 Le Mans Series with Nicolas Minassian and local driver Marc Gene recording a popular victory in front of 28,000 spectators. Blue skies greeted the 47 competitors who took the start, and the sun shone brightly on the diesel-powered Peugeot 908 Hdi FAP, which took the chequered flag a clear lap ahead of the Audi R10 TDI driven by Mike Rockenfeller and Alexandre Premat.

LOLA LMP COUPE PLANS UNVEILED
Jan 10, 2008
New designs to take on the world at Le Mans, Lola Cars International Ltd today announces the addition of the latest generation of LMP Coupe to its vast ancestry of world-beating sportscars.

Lola also releases the first images of the all-new Lola B08/60 LMP1. The car will compete in this year's Le Mans 24 Hours and Le Mans Series in the hands of existing Lola sportscar customer Charouz Racing System, who will race the new design with an Aston Martin V12 engine and engineering support from Aston Martin Racing.
The Lola B08/60 LMP1 Coupe is the result of over 12 months research, design and aerodynamic testing at Lola's renowned technical base in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire. Utilising significant upgrades in CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and windtunnel equipment, Lola is the first constructor to get a customer LMP Coupe on to the track.
As well as a full programme for the LMP1 Coupe this year, Lola has also agreed to supply a Lola B08/80 LMP2 version of the design to Speedy-Sebah Racing Team. This entry is planning to battle with Lola's open-topped sportscars to ensure a fifth consecutive class success at Le Mans in 2008, Lola's 50th anniversary year.

ASTON MARTIN REVEALS VANTAGE GT2
Jan 4, 2008
Known as the Vantage GT2, the new car is based on the V8 engined Aston Martin Vantage road car. The new car will mean Aston Martin is the only manufacturer to offer cars in every GT racing category: GT1 - DBR9, GT2 - Vantage GT2, GT3 - DBRS9, GT4 - Vantage N24.

For the first time, Aston Martin Racing is designing this car to run on either standard race fuel or E85 bio-ethanol (where regulations allow). In 2007, Aston Martin Racing successfully converted a standard DBRS9 to run on E85.
Robin Brundle, Aston Martin Racing's new managing director, said: 'The new Vantage GT2 completes our product portfolio for 2008 with competitive cars now available in every category. Thanks to our experience with the DBRS9, we have been able to develop a bio-ethanol fuelled version, which will be eligible to compete in an increasing number of series now accommodating this greener fuel, including the
American Le Mans Series.'
Aston Martin chairman, David Richards, will be announcing Aston Martin Racing's 2008 plans at the Autosport International show on Thursday 10 January at 10.45 am.
