ONTARIO FORMULA 1200 CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES -
2010

Tight and close open wheel racing at its best.

This open wheel series is entering its 47th year in 2010. It's a start up series that can be run for aproximately $5000 per year. The cars are rugged and use inexpensive Volkswagen parts. Since specs rarely change it is possible to buy a Formula 1200 car from $2000 used to $21000 brand new. The series gets factory support at every race from Vallis Motor Sport (VMS) builder of the BRD with over 25 years of Vee experience.
The races take place at Mosport, Shannonville and Calabogie, and are 20 to 30 minutes in length. Every race ends in close and tight finishes.

Last year the Formula 1200 Championship had a very event filled season. Races in Shannonville, Mosport International Raceway and Calabogie, with 23 Drivers competing in a mix of sunshine, rain, fog, wind - and one this season even hail, made for one of the best seasons ever.

Michael Iamundi dominated the 2009 season, won eleven races, and earned the 2009 season championship with a tight finish in the drivers points yet again. Andrew McMurrary was a podium regular and top 5 finisher. Andrew took some amazing onboard video footage as well, showing drivers how it is import to draft and finished the season in second place. Eric Barret was the new 2009 Vallis Cup winner for this year, scoring a hat trick in winning the three racing that weekend. Eric won six of the last nine races. Eric Barret finished the season on a high note with third overall.

The Formula 1200 Championship starts its racing season at Mosport International raceway May 8 - 9 in the BEMC 60th Annual Spring Trophy Races.

Truly an exciting racing series.

Michael Iamundi Q&A: Third time will be a charm
"Third time this season will be a charm" is what Michael Iamundi said during the interview. With SCCA drivers joining us, another competive grid and a team-mate that has been with him since karting. Two-Time F1200 champion explains with us his offseason and how he prepares for a race. This will be his fourth season behind the cockpit of an F1200 car. Q:Michael, How are you doing in the offseason? Michael Iamundi:Good, just been busy with work Q: What is your main goal for this season? MI: To win another championship Q: If you become another champion at 21, this would make you one of the youngest drivers to achieve such a goal, what would that mean? MI: Means a lot to me, because we have only been racing since 2007. And in those 4 years I could possibly have another trophy under my belt. Q: Any secrets you want to tell about how your prepare? MI: Just shake down the car, get set up right and start racing. Q: Some magazine's have you compared to Fernando Alonso winning two championships at a young age, what do you think of that? MI: That’s awesome, it good to hear that because you go out there to race, and hear the recognition of it. Q: Any new sponsors this season or new look? MI: Nope, I have the same sponsors as last season Q: How does it feel to race agiast some drivers from SCCA? MI: I would like to race them in the states.Even though they take there racing more intence, when im out there to win, that’s what I am for. Q: Will racing against them will make it more competitive in your perspective? MI: If there running up on the front, that will pay a factor in winning. It will be good competion and alot of fun. Q: You seem to have alot better luck, then Phil Wang. Both of you have a lasting friendship, how do you to help each-other? MI:We work hard together as a team. I give him advice that he needs, whatever the problem is I try and help him. This season we will see Phil run more up in the front this year then last year. <

Teams and Driver are welcome to join for 2010 Season
The Formula 1200 series is welcoming new Driver's and Team's for 2010 season. The Canadian Formula 1200 is pleased to invited new drivers and teams to the grid for 2010.  The 2009 season was very successful, with an average of 18 drivers per race weekend. Formula 1200 (Formula Vee) is a great series for karting drivers and racing enthusiast to join the open wheel scene.  With the series having very close racing to the bitter end, it comes down to 70% driver, 10% car and 10% mechanical. With eighteen races per season, three races per weekend and a qualifying. Reaching speeds of 210kph, it truly teaches drivers to be smooth to take to the next step of open wheel racing. The cost of running a series depends on either owning or running with a team. Ranging from $6,000- $20,000 per season.  The first step to get started is to join the FTDA forums, ask questions and get other drivers view of the series. Next step is to join the FTDA membership, and one of the supporting clubs I.e. BARC. As for drivers, talk to either CASC or ASN Canada about a driver licence. Limited seating is available for driver schools that are usually done in April and March. For both teams and drivers looking into getting a car, there are many cars available through-out North America, depending on cost, an average car with an engine and minor work to be done cost around $12,000. Since the Formula 1200 series is spec, everyone must run the same engine, tires, gearbox, dampers, and beam. We are an open chassis class, ranging from BRD( Upright) to a Lynx(Lay down). All drivers must be at least sixteen years of age to race in the Formula 1200 series.         Here are some links to check out for getting started in the series. www.tlmracing.com www.vallismotorsport.com www.casc.on.ca www.asncanada.com
