Thanks to all involved for a great finish to a great racing season

MOBIL 1 PRESENTS THE GRAND PRIX OF MOSPORT
(August 27 - 30, 2009)

MOSPORT WEDNESDAY AUGUST 26, 2009

Mosport changed the camping rules once again without informing the public. We arrive in the morning along with other campers at gate 3, only to be informed that access to the camping area is not available until Thursday at 8:00 AM. The staff advise us we can stay at the south end of the Mosport oval parking lot over night.

Considering setting up tents and the tear down next day we elect to return the next morning.

Mosport ALMS Weekend 2009

MOSPORT THURSDAY AUGUST 27, 2009

Arrived at Mosport a second time at the early hour of 7:00 AM. We are again advised to go to the "Oval" and line up. Here we see about 30 other groups of misfortunate campers, instead of having an good start to the Grand Prix, being "corralled" the the confines of a parking lot.

At 7:45 security "let the hounds go" (their words), and an unorganized free-for-all entry in no particular order of arrival to the Motor Park, ensued.

Our suggestion for next year, clearly post the camping area access time and let the fans enter the park as the arrive. It will make for a more enjoyable experience.

ALMS Autograph Session - Dyson Racing Mazda Drivers That said, the following 4 day were some of the best ever had at Mosport International Speedway. The racing was great, the fans were great, the weather - well for this summer - was good for the most part.

Thursday - camp setup day - saw all the support series exept for the Jetta TDI's, on the track for testing.

This year the Grand Prix of Mosport had 6 race series in support of the ALMS. Any one of these series could have headlined races in their own right. They were the Cooper Tires presents the Atlantic Championship powered by Mazda, the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear, the Formula BMW Americas, the IMSA Patron GT3 Challenge featuring Porsche 911 GT3 cars, the Star Mazda Series, the IMSA Lites Series, and the clean diesel powered Volkswagen Jetta TDI's.

ALMS #21 Panoz Esperante, Farnbacher / James

MOSPORT FRIDAY AUGUST 28, 2009

More support series testing - the track sees almost uninterupted activities. The American Le Mans Series cars make their first official on track apperance today.

We do the walk around outside of the entire road course. A great new perspective on Mosport International Raceway. Good exercise, great viewing spots, and seeing all the other fans at the track makes this an activity you should try.

As well an on track walk gives a spectator a drivers view and a new outlook on the challenges of the Raceway.

MOSPORT SATURDAY AUGUST 29, 2009

Although in the paddock for the entire weekend, the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup cars make their 1st track appearance with an 8:00 AM practice.

An excellent race day. Some practices, but qualifying and actual races are the order of the day.

MOSPORT SUNDAY AUGUST 30, 2009

RACE DAY!!
The day started with the VW Jetta TDI Cup race. Milton, Ontario's Jim Kenzie was a guest racer in the Virginia Tech #31 entry, no doubt a warm up for the Targa NL race starting September 12th.

After more support series races and many ALMS pre reace activities, including the ALMS driver autograph session, Mosport's (and Canada's) best Automobile racing event got on its way at 3:05 PM.

With 19 cars starting, several lead changes and track mishaps, we were treated to a great and exciting race. Congratulations to all that participated.

We will see you next year...knowing a "great" racing event can only get "greater". Thank you Mosport and Don Panoz.

BARC CANADIAN TOURING TROPHY RACES
(August 8 - 9, 2009)

MOSPORT SATURDAY AUGUST 8, 2009

The weather man calls for another wet and damp weekend. We come prepared, but feel for the race teams that in many instances can't take cover.

Mosport International Raceway Corner 5 Luckily the forcasts were 'slightly' wrong and we headed to corner 5 for the morning and enjoyed the practices and qualifying in perfect sunshine.

After lunch we headed to the front straight to take in the rest of the qualifying and the the weekends first 6 races. The weather cooled down and the sky become overcast but the rain held off till alfter the races and then didn't last to long. All in all a perfect day at Mosport.

MOSPORT SUNDAY AUGUST 9, 2009

G70+ #001 John Coome We get in to Gate 3 just after 9:00 AM, head up to the snack bar for some hot chocolate, and settle in at corner 4 for a while. From there we ventured to the infield of corner three.

The sprinkles started, the Formula 1200's were in their first race, a few spin outs at corner three, with only 1 racer that couldn't leave under his own power, the program went on in wet conditions.

Then the fog rolled in and the races were delayed by about a hour. Some of that down time was used for an early lunch.

The rains returned, cleared out the fog and the rest of the day was cool and overcast. Nothing but great racing ahead.

In the last race of the day - the GT Sprints - had the 'Big One' at corner 5 with much of the field spinning out on leaked fluids from Randy Oswald's #14 Porsche after his crash. Luckily no one was hurt and most damage to cars was minor. The checkered was taken by the GT's in pit lane under yellow.

Thanks to Mospert, BARC, and all race teams for another great race weekend at Mosport International Raceway.

BARC GRAND PRIX OF ONTARIO
(June 27 - 28, 2009)

MOSPORT SATURDAY JUNE 27, 2009

Perfect racing weather. This being Mosport in 2009 we know it can't last.

Ontario GT Sprints This is the weekend we welcome our American friends from the Ney York Region SCCA. The SCCA is holding a Club racing "National" event to determine Divisional point champions get qualifying points for the SCCA National Runoffs. Due to the economic downturn and the new Passport requirements to re-enter the United States the car count was slightly down this year. We did see 80 plus SCCA cars take part in this years Grand Prix of Mosport.

MOSPORT SUNDAY JUNE 28, 2009 Sunday the weather turned on us. The day started overcast and changed to showers by noon. The rains stopped about 3:30 PM, but the track was still less than ideal for the rest of the day.

None the less, the racing was great, especially the Formula 1200's being joint by the Formula Libres. There was a lot of passing and close racing in that group.

The Mobil 1 GT's running 6 classes at once also didn't disappoint, we stayed till the end of the races and can't wait to be back to Mosport International Raceway for more great racing.

MOSPORT HIGH OCTANE WEEKEND
(June 12 - 14, 2009)

MOSPORT THURSDAY JUNE 11, 2009

We arrived at the corner 8 family camping area at 9:30 AM Thursday morning. There wasn't another soul around. The camping area was deserted. Ah well, we began to set up camp.

HIGH OCTANE WEEKEND TICKET On the track were 2 ALMS Robertson Racing Ford Gt's. Robertson Racing were testing their GT2 entry all day for the upcoming ALMS weekend in August.

Later in the day other campers start arriving. The weather is good and we use the oppertunity to check out the paddock. Many of the weekends entries are here already.

Mosport corner 8 camping
MOSPORT FRIDAY JUNE 12, 2009
Today is test day for three of the Support Series taking part in the Mosport High Octane Weekend. We've got the Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship, the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge, and the F2000 Championship presented by Hoosier Tire alternating on the 4 km track all day.

MOSPORT SATURDAY JUNE 13, 2009
Today is the first day for qualifying and racing. We are being joined by the Ontario Formula Ford Challenge (OFFC). This is a great local racing series with well over 20 F1600 cars in 3 classes participating. There is alway lots of passing and excitement in this open wheel series.

Also, the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series (NCATS) arrived last night and make the first weekend appearance on the track. The Series had 29 cars in the entry list of which 24 made it to the race.

After dinner it's off to the Mosport Speedway to see the regions best short track racing. Tonight along with the regular stock car races we are treated to 2 - 50 lap Ontario Sportsman Series (OSS) races.

NCATS Pre race festivities
MOSPORT SUNDAY JUNE 14, 2009
This is the highlight of the weekend. Most of the day is filled with racing.

We managed to meet all the NCATS drivers at the autograph session prior to the main race and then spend the remainder of the day sitting back and enjoying all the races. After the last race it was dinner and a campfire.

We left Mosport Monday morning after a great weekend.

P.S.
Were were sad to see Caitlin Johnston have a hard crash at corner 5 Saturday morning, which saw her Van Diemen/Zetec destroyed, but glad to see her return for the F1600 and F2000 races on Sunday.
Also we were glad to hear that Joey Hanssen was ok after a hard crash into the tire wall of corner 8 in lap 10 during the NCATS race.

59th ANNUAL SPRING TROPHY RACES
(May 9 - 10, 2009)

MOSPORT SATURDAY MAY 9, 2009

The first racing weekend of the year at Mosport International Raceway. We have waited for this day over 6 long winter months.

The good news - temperatures will reach 23ºC, the bad news there is rain in the forcast. The weather gods understated the conditions once again and the "cloud over Mosport" appeared early. The practices had to be stopped araound 10:00 AM for strong rains, with another delay for torrential rain with hail just after 11:00 AM. The remainder of the day was just rain, rain, rain, with very few dry or sunny moments.

Aside of that, we hardy fans had a great time watching the races from the cover of Rolf's Minivan.
As usual the OFFC had great turnout with 24 cars in their first race. The GT sprints, not to be outdone fielded in excess of 40 cars. (Nick Majors #52 Viper was missed.) The Vintage/ Historic and G70+ cars had impressive numbers as well.
It was good to see the Formula Classic and Formula Libre cars out, although in lesser numbers. The Formula Libre have always been a great series and hopefully the count will increase as the season unfolds.

We thank the racers, corner workers and all volunteers for braving the horrible conditions this wet Saturday.

Sunday was a dry, but colder day. Unfortunately due to Mother's Day none of us were able to attend the 2nd day of racing, but hope that every one had a great and safe weekend.

CANADIAN MOTORSPORTS EXPO
(January 16 - 18, 2009)

TORONTO SATURDAY JANUARY 17, 2009

Multimatic Motorsports P675 Class Lola B2K/40 We arrived at the International Centre in Toronto for the third annual Canadian Motorsport Expo on Saturday morning. This was our second year visiting the Canadian Motorsports Expo and we wern't disappointed. The show was bigger and better than last year, which in itself was a great show. We congratulate Glenn Butt for putting on another excellent Motorsports Expo.

There were well over 65 exhibitors, including all the major race tracks, race series, race teams, race suppliers, sponsors and race media present. We ended up talking to countless people from many racing series and always walked away with a greater appreciaton for Canadian Motorsports.

Jimmy Johnson's Hendrick Motorsport Sprint cup #48 This year the show featured autograpgh and information sessions with many racing celebraties including Ron Fellows and Jacques Villeneave. On hand were also NASCAR Canadian Tire Series drivers Scott Steckly and NCATS Series favourite Kerry Micks, with their cars on display.

We also spotted Scott Maxwell at the Expo, he had his 24 Hr Le Mans class winning Multimatic Motorsports P675 Class Lola B2K/40 on display

This is an excellent Motorsports Exposition. If you missed it this year, try for next, I know we'll return.

The Southern Ontario race season can't begin soon enough. The Canadian Motorsport Expo means Spring is near and gets us into the racing mood.

See you at track beginning in May.
