The Concours is not a contest of speed, but of excellence. Automobiles and motorcycles are judged for their historical accuracy, their technical merit and their style. And the best garner reward and recognition.

Thousands of enthusiasts are on hand to celebrate these vehicles and enjoy the company of others who share their passion.

The 2010 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, slated for Sunday, August 15, will feature Alfa Romeo, Pierce-Arrow and Jaguar and will celebrate the designs of Ghia. The Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance presented by Rolex is an annual driving event that delights entrants and spectators alike.

Initiated to showcase the elegance of the automobile in motion, the Tour also underscores the early history of the place that is Pebble Beach. Decades before golf links were laid out along the edge of the Pacific Ocean, this area was known for its scenic drive, winding for miles through pine and cypress forest, dancing alongside dramatic cliffs and leading, ultimately, to a beautiful cresent-shaped bay.

The traditional Tour traces portions of the original 17-Mile Drive, traverses nearby mountains and valleys, dips down famed Highway One and pauses for a time in charming Carmel-by-the-Sea. The 2009 Tour also included a special route for Morgan Motor cars, tracing Scenic Road to the historic Carmel Mission. All Tour participants enjoy a catered gourmet lunch, a champagne celebration at the finish and commemorative gifts.

The Tour is open to all entrants in the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. And spectators are invited to view the Tour at key points along the route, including stops at the Carmel Mission and along Ocean Avenue in Carmel.

It is important to note that the Tour and the Concours are directly linked. If two cars tie in class competition at the Concours, the car that has successfully completed the Tour gets the nod.

Here in the village of Woodford Halse we have an annual Village Fete, which is a highly popular and successful show. This is a charitable event, with all proceeds going to the upkeep of the parish church, St. Mary the Virgin; our aim this coming year is to raise funds to replace the lead that has been stolen from the roof twice in the last 12 months. The fete is held in West Farndon, almost halfway between Banbury and Daventry, situated near the A361. It is a traditional village affair with live music, food, a licensed bar and a wide range of attractions for all ages. To widen the appeal of the show this coming year, which will be held on the 10th July 2010, it is planned that this will include our inaugural classic vehicle gathering. The vehicle meeting is to commence at 12.00 pm, with the fete opening it's gates at 3.00 pm and finishing at 8.00 pm. For a nominal entry fee of £3 for motorcycles or £5 for all other vehicles, all participants will receive free entry to the fete. All vehicles will be eligible for judging in the Woodford Halse Pride & Joy award, with the winner receiving a cup to commemorate the occasion.
