25th Annual Huntington Beach Concours d’Elegance
Huntington Beach Concours d’Elegance is a two day event offers the family live entertainment while admiring some of the most beautiful automobiles and motorcycles in Southern California on the picturesque lawns of Huntington Beach Central Park.

Saturday’s “Back to the Beach” offers a wide variety of hot rods with a salute to Ford and “HEMI” and a tribute to “Donut Derelicts”. Grand Marshall Fireball Tim Lawrence, movie car designer, as seen on Discovery’s “World’s Most Expensive Cars”, will be filming “Fireball Tim’s World of Cars” and conducting DragTracks® racing. The Mai Tais Surf band and South Pacific dancers are sure to pick up the pace during the day.

Sunday features the traditional Concours with Ford and Ferrari and Ducati and Goldwing motorcycles as the honored marques. John Clinard, Ford’s western regional manager for public affairs, is the Grand Marshall. Dave Kunz, KABC-TV automotive specialist, will be the master of ceremonies. Free ice cream and Hot Wheels racing for the kids and a live band for the adults highlight the event. Also, the Sixth Annual Student Art Contest will be conducted at the VIP Luncheon.

The Concours hosts 120+ classes (19 for Ford alone) and over 400 cars, motorcycles and bicycles, as well as entertainment, food and vendors will bring back the good ole days with a dash of the future.

The “World’s Fastest Indian” motorcycle will be on display both days. Remember the movie? Proceeds are donated to the Huntington Beach Children’s Resource Center at the Huntington Beach Central Library by the Huntington Beach Concours d’Elegance, a non-profit corporation.

Race retro, The Historic Motor Sport Event Celebrating Alfa Romeo
The final countdown to this year's Race Retro has begun, with just over a week until the doors open at Stoneleigh Park, Coventry - and whether you like your historic motor sport on two wheels or four - there's something for every motoring enthusiast.

Starting on Friday 12 March and lasting three days, the exhibition halls and rally stage will bring historic motor sport to life through the cars, bikes and competitors who made their names in the past, but are still highly regarded today.

Race Retro is celebrating 100 years of Alfa Romeo, and a delectable line-up of competition models down the decades will demonstrate just why this highly- successful manufacturer's cars are still competing today, despite their age.

Outside, there's an action-packed tribute to a later classic model - Audi's all-conquering quattro - with numerous models being put through their paces in the hands of the real Stig - acclaimed driver Stig Blomqvist.

Meanwhile, fans of 1970s and 1980s rallying are in for a treat, as Russell Brookes gets behind the wheel of the "Andrews Heat for Hire"-sponsored cars, including the Talbot Sunbeam.

The rally stage is always a big draw at Race Retro and - while many people will be waiting to see several Group B cars - for those who like their cars from an earlier period, Brian Culcheth is back behind the wheel of a Triumph 2.5PI, proving that four-door saloons can be just as much fun as any two- door.

Bringing the action right up to date is reigning British Rally Champion Keith Cronin, who will be at the wheel of the mighty Aston Martin V8 Rally GT, trying to beat the legends at their own game!

But for enthusiasts who like their motorsport in quarter- mile, straight-line style, Race Retro welcomes the UK's first dragster, which was constructed by Sydney Allard. Built to run in its home country, but mimicking Stateside dragsters, the Chrysler Hemi-engined car is currently being fully restored to its former glory.

Tour Britannia 2010 Classic Rally Special Stage Confirmed
Last week the Tour Britannia organisers had confirmation from the Llandudno Council that the four and half mile Marine Drive round the famous Great Orme can be used as a special stage on this year's event. It will run on the middle day of the Tour Britannia, Wednesday, September 8th.

The Great Orme is a limestone headland that stretches out into the Irish Sea to the north-west of Llandudno with the town sitting literally in its shadow. The Marine Drive has been used in the past, most notably on the RAC Rally. The road clings to the side of the cliffs with a good view down on the other side to the sea. In many ways it is similar to the Oliver's Mount stage that was so popular on the 2009 Tour Britannia though it is double the length. It also has echoes of some Irish stages like Donegal's Atlantic Drive and Cork's Cod's Head. For certain, it will be a stunning addition to the special stages of the Tour Britannia 2010.

It is normally in use as a toll road with one-way traffic circulating in an anti-clockwise direction. Tour Britannia does not allow reconnaissance of its stages so it has been decided to run the stage in the reverse direction, i.e. clockwise, to eliminate any competitive benefit that might be gained from a weekend spent in Llandudno prior to the event.

That is not to say that a weekend spent in Llandudno might not have its cultural and health benefits. The Great Orme is a nature reserve and possesses eight wells that in the past supplied water for the local copper mines. There is a tramway that takes visitors to the top of the Great Orme.

The headland also hosts two dry ski slopes and one of the longest toboggan runs in the UK. Down in the town, there is Llandudno Pier and the Parade, a curving Victorian promenade that looks out on Llandudno Bay. And for the nautical, there is the unique lifeboat station that is located inland so that the lifeboat can be launched to either the West Shore or the North Shore as required.

We are also pleased to announce the very positive news that entries for Tour Britannia 2010 are comfortably ahead of the numbers received by this time last year, but the house is not full yet and places are still available. Entry Forms and Regulations can be downloaded from our website www.tourbritannia.com

Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2010: the place to be for perfection and elegance
For anyone with a fondness for spring and an appreciation of the Italian way of life, Lake Como in April has always been hard to beat. And the world-famous Grand Hotel Villa d’Este is the perfect base for those looking to revel in the lakeside ambience rather than merely bed down for the night. Should the same people also share a love of fine cars, the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este will deliver the perfect weekend. All of which means that the dates 23 – 25 April are likely to have been among the first in any auto enthusiast’s diary.

This will be the 12th time that the automotive beauty contest has been held under the patronage of the BMW Group. “We are very proud that, working with the Grand Hotel Villa d’Este, we have made the Concorso one of the world’s top classic car events,” said Karl Baumer, President of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este and Director of BMW Group Classic. Dr Jean-Marc Droulers, President of Villa d’Este S.p.A., also underlined the importance of the event for his company: “The Concorso offers an atmosphere you won’t find anywhere else. The manufacturers focused on professionalism, flawlessness and elegance when it came to building their cars, and we’re following a similar blueprint with the Concorso.”

BMW’s Italian job

The relationship between BMW and Italy is by no means limited to the Concorso. This year sees the 70th anniversary of one of the greatest moments in the history of BMW Motorsport: victory in the 1940 Mille Miglia. The hero of the day 70 years ago was the BMW 328. Just 464 examples of the Roadster were built over the four years from 1936 to 1940, but that was enough to put the wind up its rivals. A racing version of the 328 made its debut in the legendary Italian car race in 1938 – and filled the top four places in its class at the first attempt. BMW lined up for the final pre-war edition of the race two years later with a pair of 328 Coupés and three Roadster versions, for which a new and ultra-lightweight streamlined body had been developed. In the battle to shed the seconds, its head-turning contours successfully reduced aerodynamic drag and shaped the path of automotive design for decades to come. The BMW 328 Mille Miglia Touring Coupé secured the brand its greatest triumph to date. Drivers Fritz Huschke von Hanstein and Walter Bäumer posted an average speed of 166.723 km/h on the way to securing overall victory in the race, and the coveted team prize also went to BMW. “Before we head to the Mille Miglia we will put all of our Mille Miglia cars on display to the public in a special exhibition at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. You could call it a team presentation,” said Karl Baumer, whetting the appetite for the planned BMW showcase at the Concorso.

ASM Motorsport European Historic Rally Championship plans
The team ASM Motorsport is expectant and all his components enormously excited before the beginning of a new season, when today the drivers Antonio Sainz and Ferran Font to initiate his journey in a new edition of European Historic Rally Championship. The Historic Cyprus Rally will be the start to a season, which one presents replete with sports very exciting moments.

If the previous season was appearing a priori as "initial contact ", the excellent results obtained to European level with several podiums of class and Ferran Font's third absolute position in the Category 3, they make expect a very exciting season. Not in vain, the FIA is putting with very determination in order that the European competition to be more increasingly an interesting for the media. As the principal innovations this season to highlight the extension of the number of races to punctuate, as well as a better distribution of the same ones.

ASM Motorsport not only will be present in the mentioned European competition, also he has foreseen his participation in diverse races of interest, as for example the Rally Costa Brava Histórico (11-14 March) or the Roger Albert Clark Rally (26-29 November). In addition one is dependent on the evolution that the so called " Iberian competition ", where we will find the races as the Rally Costa Brava (05-07 November), the Rally Shalymar (26-28 November), the Historical Rally of Spain and a race in Andorra, these two last ones yet for determining, not discarding the possible extension of the calendar depending on the needs of the team and his pilots.

In a beginning the drivers of ASM Motorsport in the European Championship, Antonio Sainz and Ferran Font, will realize a practically similar program. Both have changed his vehicle passing to the Category 2, reserved to vehicles Tourism and Great Tourism authorized between 1970 and 1975. Sainz will be accompanied by his habitual co-driver Javier Martínez-Cattaneo, with whom he shares cockpit for a few seasons. While, Ferran Font will have to his right to Oriol Julià, that this season joins to the team after having co-driver in the World Rally Championship with Oriol Gómez, Xevi Pons and Dani Sordo, and more recently to Pedro Font and Alex Bercianos in the Spanish Championship.

Many innovations environment Antonio Sainz. This one will alternate his participation in the European Championship to the steering wheel of a Porsche 911 RS, with which he competed for time first in the past Rally Shalymar, and with a BMW 2002, with the one has competed sporadically in National races. This combination is owed to that the Porsche will be reserved for the rallyes of asphalt, where there has appeared something more competitive than the Escort thanks to his major power, wile with the BMW, a vehicle more strong that the Porsche, he will dispute the races of gravel. But these will not be the only vehicles that Antonio Sainz will use, since also he will register with the Escort in the races that he could dispute fortuitous.

Other Sworders Country House Auction Photos

A fascinating group of highly desirable ‘barn-mates’ will go under the hammer at Sworders’ Country House Auction at Stansted Mountfitchet in Essex on April 27th.

The David Howland Collection of Vintage Vehicles includes three true ‘barn-finds’ - a 1929 Morgan Aero ‘Special’, a 1935 BSA Scout and a 1948 Field Marshall tractor - plus a fine, restored 1913 Th. Schneider 15/20hp four-seat open tourer. And, taking the history of personal transport back yet further, to the days when real, not mechanical, horsepower was required, the collection also features a number of horse-drawn carriages, most notably an elegant 19th century barouche.

“David Howland was a local farmer and keen vintage vehicle enthusiast,” said Tim Turner of Sworders.

“The Morgan, the BSA and the Field Marshall are lovely, unrestored, dusty barn-finds which will make hugely enjoyable restoration projects. The Schneider is very smart and only requires some recommissioning to become a very usable vehicle for veteran car events, while the carriages - particularly the fine, original barouche - should appeal to carriage driving fans or carriage collectors or even to car collectors who simply want to own a wonderful piece of transportation history.”
