CASTROL CANADIAN TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP - 2008Newest and biggest Canadian touring car series.
CCTCC
The Castrol Touring Car Championship has two classes: Touring and Super Touring cars. All competing for class and overall honours at the same time. The series has produced many semi-pro drivers. Drivers can and do share cars to reduce costs, particularly in the longer races. The rulebook has guidelines for vehicle classification, with reward weights and tire restrictions to equalize competition. The Canadian Castrol Touring Car Championship cars race exclusively on Toyo's Proxes RA1 tire.
In 2007 the series ran at Mosport International Raceway, Shannonville Motorsport Park, Calabogie Motorsports Park and at the Steelback Grand Prix of Toronto. Watch for the CCTCC series to expand to even more tracks in the future.
Note: The GT class from previous years has been dropped starting in the 2008 season. Many ex GT teams will make the switch to Super Touring.

2008 CHAMPIONS CROWNED
______________________
The Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship Presented by Toyo Tires concluded its 2008 season at Mosport International Raceway on September 13/14, 2008. There were 16 races over eight different race weekends in 2008. The Championship visited five different racetracks in Quebec and Ontario including Mosport International Raceway, ICAR at Mirabel, Shannonville Motorsport Park, Trois-Rivieres and Calabogie Motorsports Park.
The Championship attracted a wide variety of drivers from across Canada and even some from the United States of America. 56 different drivers competed in the Championship and there were 15 different race winners throughout the season. Over 130,000 spectators enjoyed intense and competitive racing in the two Classes.
The Championship is comprised of two Classes of racecars; Touring Class in the entry level Class where only minimal modifications are allowed while Super Touring Class has the powerful heavily modified racecars with engines up to 2.8 litres. Drivers can start out in Touring Class and develop their racecraft and then move up to Super Touring Class when they are ready for more power and speed. Both Classes compete at the same time on the track and challenge for supremacy in their Class which creates an amazing show. Touring Class racecars are easy to recognize because they have blue windshield banners and headlights while Super Touring Class has yellow windshield banners and headlights.
After eight race weekends, the Champions in both Classes were decided at the final race weekend. In Super Touring Class, the overall order was Nigel Krikorian followed by Etienne Borgeat and Peter Lejbjuk.
Nigel Krikorian lives in Markham, Ontario and drives the number 52 Subaru STi for Krikorian Motorsports. Nigel dominated Super Touring Class with nine race wins this season. "This was a tough season," reminisced Nigel, "and the crew worked very hard usually until one or two in the morning to get the car ready." "The competition was incredible all season. And even though I won a lot of races, my two favourites I did not win."

CCTCC Super Touring Champions 2008
Etienne Borgeat lives in Montreal, Quebec and drives the number 2 BMW 328 for GT Racing. Etienne was on the podium eight times this season which helped him to secure two overall in Super Touring Class. "I had a lot of body damage this season," stated Etienne, "and the team had to work very hard to have the car ready for every race." "At the beginning of the season I wasn’t sure how things would go but I am happy with the end result."
Peter Lejbjuk lives in Barrie, Ontario and drives the number 45 Honda Civic Si for VMC. Peter won both races at Calabogie Motorsports Park and had two more podiums on his way to third overall in Super Touring Class. "The season started with reliability issues," stated Peter, "but the team got them worked out."
In Touring Class, the overall order was Andre Rapone followed by Christian Raymond and Anthony Rapone.
Andre Rapone lives in Thornhill, Ontario and drives the number 73 Acura Integra Type R for Durabond Racing. Andre finished the season with three wins and three podiums. "The plan was to try to complete each race," stated Andre, "and then hope for the best." "I am grateful for the help of engine tuner Ken Lau."

CCTCC Touring Champions 2008
Christian Raymond lives in St-Jerome, Quebec and drives the number 04 Mazda Protege for TwoFast Racing. Christian completed the season with an incredible 12 podiums in 16 races which included one win. "I am fortunate to have one of the best crews," he continued, "and I am thankful for some setup advice from other teams too." "The Quebec Mazda Dealers Association helped me to complete the season."
Anthony Rapone lives in Thornhill, Ontario and drives the number 72 Acura Integra Type R for Durabond Racing. Anthony enjoyed two wins and two podiums on his way to third overall in Touring Class. CASTROL CANADIAN TOURING CARS FEATURED AT GRAND PRIX DE MIRABEL
The Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship Presented by Toyo Tires was featured at the Grand Prix de Mirable and the new ICAR facility. Thirty competitors were tested by the technically challenging track throughout the weekend.
Two practice sessions were held on Friday as many experienced the track for the very first time. Drivers found it challenging to find the correct turn-in points because of the wide-open and flat nature of the track. There were a number of off-track excursions as drivers braked to late or tried to carry to much speed into the tighter portions of the track.
Saturday's qualifying was run on a clear track and sunny skies. Kuno Wittmer in his Honda took top honours in Super Touring Class by eight tenths of a second over Mathieu Audette in his Acura followed by Charles-Andre Bilodeau in his BMW. Alain Lauziere in his Mini out-qualified the Touring Class competitors by over one second followed by teammates Eric Leblanc and Christian Raymond in their Mazdas.
The first race of the weekend was run in dry conditions on Saturday afternoon. Super Touring Class was won by Kuno Wittmer followed by Mathieu Audette and Charles-Andre Bilodeau. Alain Lauziere won in Touring Class race followed by Daniel Blanchette and Eric Leblanc.
A light rain began to fall just before the start of the feature race and the teams hurried to make final adjustments before the cars took to the track. The impressive field took the green flag and searched for the best grip on the wet track before a full course yellow came out as Roger Bowes crashed in ICAR's final "Corner of Champions." The cleanup was quick and the race continued. The top cars in Super Touring Class were covered by only a few seconds as Mathieu Audette worked his way passed Kuno Wittmer only to have a suspension failure end his race. At the chequered flag, Kuno Wittmer won in his Honda followed by teammates Charles-Andre Bilodeau and Etienne Borgeat in their BMWs. Alain Lauziere put on a driving school in the rain and brought his Mini home to win by almost one minute over Brad Young and P.J. Groenke in their Hondas.
Dave Ciekiewicz started at the back in the feature race and drove in the rain to fourth in Super Touring Class. His drive has won him the Hard Charger Award sponsored by CSC Racing Products Inc.
The Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship features Canada's Best Drivers Racing Today's Hottest Touring Cars.

EVENT 1 - VICTORIA DAY SPEEDFEST WEEKEND MOSPORT MAY 17- 18, 2008
CASTROL CANADIAN TOURING CARS TO HEADLINE MAJAOR EVENT
__________________________________________________
CCTCC highlights Victoria Day SpeedFest
The Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship presented by Toyo Tires will headline Mosport's Victoria Day SpeedFest, May 16-18 2008.
Known for its large fields and intense wheel-to-wheel racing that features many of today's hottest touring cars from marques such as BMW, Corvette, Lexus and Acura, the Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship has points races for both the Touring and Super Touring classes on the weekend schedule.
Joining the Castrol series are two exciting SCCA championships- the Playboy Mazda MX-5 Cup and the Jetta TDI Cup. Both series are comprised of fields of identical cars that are showroom stock with a few minor race modifications. The Playboy Mazda MX-5 Cup returns to Mosport after a one-year absence with new title sponsorship from Playboy. The Jetta TDI Cup is a new series which features identical cars powered by the all-new, high-tech 2.0-litre four-cylinder TDI clean diesel engine rated at 170 horsepower and nearly 300 ft.-lbs. of torque in racing trim.

The 3/4 scale Sprint Cup stock cars of the Cup Lites Series return to Mosport for their 11th season, and other races could be added to the weekend schedule.
In addition to all the exciting action on-track, Mosport's popular Victoria Day weekend fireworks show returns to light up the night sky on Saturday evening beginning just after dark. Also included with paid admission is access to the race team paddock and the Motorsport Expo & Marketplace, which features an interesting array of racing souvenirs and displays.
Mosport SpeedFest ticket-holders can also use their passes for admission to the adjacent Mosport Speedway half-mile oval for the Auto Workers Community Credit Union Saturday Night Stock Car Racing, presented by PartSource. Racing starts at 6:30 pm. The fireworks show should be visible from the Speedway's grandstands.
